Creating Ask at Order Entry (AOE) Answers

Order AOE Answers in File Maintenance is the master file you use to define the list of answers used for Order AOE questions if the Source type is pick list. If a test vendor gives you a list of acceptable answers for AOE questions, you can create and link the provided answer list to the questions for that specific testing vendor (for example Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp). This helps to prevent problems with format and content of answers to Order AOE Questions. The System field on the Order AOE Answers dialog box is selected from a list of performing entities, such as Quest Diagnostics, Orchard and Labcorp. The Code field is a unique answer ID. The Description is text that easily identifies the question, for example: Patient Race, Fasting, Weight, Age, etc. If the question is defined as a required question the Orders Module displays it as bold when you are running NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Setting Up AOE Questions

AOE questions are questions that the provider or user asks the patient when they send the test order out to their performing entity, for example, the patient's race; did they fast before the test?; what is the specimen's origin?; and other questions. Required questions are defined by the entity performing the test. The user does not make up their own questions about the test; they must come from the testing entity, such as a lab. The question has a code that the test performing entity understands (both the question and the answer must be sent exactly as the performing entity (the lab or radiology unit ) requests, for example, you cannot send "fasting" as a question if the lab-defined question asks for "fast". A text description associated with each question makes it readable. Some question's answers are optional, some are required. A flag that you can select on the test question in file maintenance makes the answer required. If the check box is turned ON an answer is required. When you

Orders Test Master File

You can manually add or modify tests and their appropriate codes in the Order Test master file. Because you must have a test to associate a component with, you must create this file first. The Orders Module supports both standard lab tests (blood work, urinalysis, etc.) and radiology tests (x-rays, MRIs, etc.). These tests must be selected and defined for your practice. You can use the tests in the NextGen® compendium; you can use the tests from your testing entities (such as Labcorp); or, you can define your own set of tests. Before setting up the NextGen Compendium or Orders Tests, to ensure the most recent compendiums are loaded, your system administrator must run the Order Management Console. The test settings, questions and other definitions for the Orders Module are set up using File Maintenance. The master files store all data needed by the Orders Module, and they must also be properly set up before you can use the Orders Module. You should define these Orders master files first: Order Tests, Order Components, Order Test Favorites, Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers. Handle AOE Questions

Before you begin Before you begin, ensure that you have configured the Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers system master files in File Maintenance. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest File Maintenance Master Files Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. You can answer Ask at Order Entry (AOE) questions while ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests through performing entities that require AOE, such as such as Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics® . Open CPOE. Select an order item. Assign a diagnosis to the selected order item. Select the Laboratory or Diagnostic tab. Under the AOE Question Answer section, select the answers to the questions. Note: Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) displays an indication for any tests that are configured for AOE answers. CPOE automatically saves your answers. Test Details Tab

In the Test Details tab for your test orders, you can enter the test name, collection details and AOE questions. If you select a test in the Test Name list and then select the Select to display Specimen handling details link, the Specimen Handling Information window opens, showing details on the collection of the test specimen. The detail for the test specimen and AOE questions is entered using File Maintenance when you create the Orders test code. You select Order Tests in Master Files. There is a tab on each record for Specimen Handling where you can input the information for this test. Under the Options tab there is also a section for entering Ask at Order Entry Questions information.
