You can approve a new eRx refill request using the manage refills window in the Medications module and acknowledge drug interactions.
- Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window.
- To view the Medications module for the patient, select Medications
from the Quick Buttons panel.
If
NextGen® Enterprise EHR detects a new eRx refill request for the patient, the
Manage Refills window opens, where you can view the refill requests details of the patient.
- To view the details of the refill request, select the refill request and select Details.
The
Refill Response Details window opens.
- To approve the refill request, do one of the following:
- Select Approve Refill and select the number of refills to approve for the patient.
- Right-click the refill request, select Approve Refill, and then select the number of refills to approve for the patient.
- Enter or select the number of refills from the refills list.
Note: Approve Refill is unavailable for oral liquid medications that have units other than milliliters. You must select Deny Refill, and then select Denial - New prescription to follow as the denial reason. You can then use the Medications module to create a new prescription.
- In Note to Pharmacy, enter a note for the pharmacy.
- Select OK.
Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically generates the patient’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report so that you can review the report before prescribing a controlled substance.
If
NextGen® Enterprise EHR detects any drug interactions, the
Drug Interaction window opens, where you can review the details of the drug interactions.
NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients.
- To approve the drug interaction, enter a reason or select one from the reason list, and then select Acknowledge.
The
Send Refill Response window opens.
Note: The Send Refill Response window opens for each medication you select. If the medication is a controlled substance, you must authenticate the prescription in the Send Refill Response window.
- Review the information under Patient Information, Prescriber Information, Medication, and Destination, and select Send.
If any unacknowledged refill requests exists, a message appears. You can select Yes to proceed to the Medications module or No to return to the Manage Refills window. NextGen® Enterprise EHR sends the approval for the eRx refill request to the Workflow module and adds eRx Refill Notification to the Encounter History tab.
