Add a Task to an Existing In-Progress Encounter

When you run the Add New Task trigger to add a NextGen® Enterprise PM task, you can link the task to an existing In-Progress encounter. An In-Progress encounter captures charges and transactions for work or care that has not been completed or delivered.
This feature enables you to:
  • Avoid generating new encounters when an appropriate In-Progress encounter exists for a new NextGen® Enterprise PM task that you are generating in a NextGen® Enterprise EHR template.
  • Ensure that all NextGen® Enterprise PM tasks related to a given In-Progress encounter are identified correctly so your business operations are not adversely impacted.
  1. In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the patient's chart.
  2. Open the applicable template.
  3. Run the Add New Task trigger.
    • If a valid In-Progress encounter ID is returned, the system adds the new NextGen® Enterprise PM task and links it to the In-Progress encounter.
    • If no In-Progress encounter ID or a partial In-Progress encounter ID is returned, the trigger does not default to another encounter ID. NextGen® Enterprise EHR does not add the task and displays a window with the error message, Encounter ID Invalid. Unable to Add Task.
  4. Save the template.
