Access External Provider Reference from the Medications Module

You can access the External Provider Reference resource and search for additional information regarding the selected medication from the Medications module. Open the Medications module for a patient. Enter a new medication for the patient, if required. Do one of the following: Right-click the medication, and then select Resources > External Provider Reference. Select the medication, and then select Resources > External Provider Reference from the Medications module toolbar. The application directs you to the external URL you set up in your practice preference or user preference. Note: The External Provider Reference is also available from the Medication Search window. View External Patient Education or Clinical Decision Support

If you select either External Patient Education or Clinical Decision Support, the external URL you specified in File Maintenance appear in a browser window, for example MedlinePlus Connect. MedlinePlus Connect. Enter the specific data you wish to retrieve in the search field and select Search. The External Patient Education or Clinical Decision Support resources appear. Access External Patient Education from the Medications Module

You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Medications module. The external resource collects the RxNorm information for the selected medication and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Medications module for a patient. Enter a new medication for the patient, if required. Do one of the following: Right-click the medication, and then select Resources > External Patient Education. Select the medication, and then select Resources > External Patient Education from the toolbar of the Medications module. The application directs you to the external URL set up in File Maintenance. Note: The External Patient Education resource is also available from the Medication Search window. Set Up URLs for Educational and Clinical Resources

When viewing a completed result from the Results tab, you can access educational resources or clinical references for a physician's or clinical staff's use or to give to a patient. This practice preference enables you to set up the URLs for services that your practice subscribes to, such as MedlinePlus Connect. Select File Maintenance > System > Practices. Select to select a practice. Select Preferences. Select Resources. The Resources window opens. Enter the appropriate URLs in the following fields for your practice, if necessary. You can set the URL for the following: External Patient Education Clinical Decision Support External Provider Reference Note: If you set up the URL for External Provider Reference in NextGen® Enterprise EHR User Preferences, that URL overrides the entry in the File Maintenance Orders Module Resources field. Open Website Resources

Before you begin Ensure that you have set up the website URL in the Practice Preferences > Resources > Orders in File Maintenance. Note: For provider reference resource, you can set up the website URL as a NextGen® Enterprise EHR user preference in Tools > Preferences > Reference > Order Module - Lab Results. The user-level website URL configuration overrides the practice-level configuration. You can open specific website resources for patient education, clinical decision support, or provider reference. Note: For more information on setting up website URLs in Practice Preferences, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Orders Module Setup Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and select a patient. Open the Orders module and select the Results tab. In the results details, select the result value for the collection date and time. Accessing Patient Education Resources

In Patient Education Resources Guide, you can set up and use external educational resources and internal resources from the following modules of NextGen® Enterprise EHR. The Patient Education Browser also enables you to add, save, and delete education material to a patient's chart or a patient's NextGen® PxP Portal account.
