Set Up Remote Connections

You can use the Remote Connections master file to specify the parameters of the network connection between the central NextGen® Document Management installation and remote NextGen® Document Management locations. Open File Maintenance. In Master Files, select System > Remote Connections.The Remote Connections List window opens. Perform one of the following: To add an item, select the open menu button, and then select New. To modify an existing item, select the item in the list, select the open menu button, and then select Open. The Remote Connection Configuration window displays. Enter the remote connection name, block size to use for each transfer, and then the time interval to occur between transfers.For example, a block size of 4 means the file transfers 4096 bytes at a time. In Note, enter additional information about the storage location. Optional: To hide the storage location, select the Hide checkbox. Select Next to add another item or select OK to return to the Remote Connection

Designate Storage Location for Deleted Files

Before you begin Create a storage location, and then label it as Hard Delete. In NextGen® Document Management, you can provide an opportunity for an administrator or supervisor to review the deleted image and, if necessary, restore it. Open File Maintenance. In Master Files, select System, PM, or Document Management, and then select Practices. The Practices List window opens. In the Practices list, double-click a practice. The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. In Preferences List, select Imaging. In Hard Delete Path, select the hard delete storage location that you created, and then select OK to close the Practice Preferences window. Close the Modify Practice Information window, and then close the Practices List window. Configure Workgroup

In File Maintenance, select Master Files > Systems > Workgroups. The Workgroups List window opens. Select the Open Menu button and select New. The Workgroup Configuration window opens. Enter a name for the workgroup in the Workgroup Name field. From the list of existing storage locations in each field, select a storage location for each of the following fields: Scan To Location - The original location where the scanned images are sent. File From Location - The location from which each scanned image is filed. Cache Location - The local location where images are stored for quick access. When you specify a storage location as the Cache Location, NextGen® Document Management looks in the cache for a requested remote image. If it finds the image in the cache, image access time is greatly improved. If NextGen® Document Management does not locate the image in the cache, it looks in the main image archive. Setting Up Storage Locations

A storage location is a folder on your network that holds the scanned images and documents you generate when you use NextGen® Document Management. The setup for the storage locations must exist in File Maintenance before you can assign any of them to serve as either a permanent or temporary archive or a cache for scanned images. If you are using NextGen® Document Management for a single location, then you can create only one network storage location to serve as the permanent network share location for all scanned images. Workgroups

Remote scanning in NextGen® Document Management requires that all remote locations, as well as the primary location, be part of a workgroup. A workgroup is simply one or more IP addresses that exist on one end of a router. A workgroup can belong to a different practice or enterprise than the workgroup to which the primary location belongs. You should set up a Workgroup for each range of IP addresses within a physical location. If you do not use the Remote Scanning Network Service with NextGen® Document Management, you can still configure Workgroups so that you can use the Cache location associated with each Workgroup. Provided its IP address is valid, the Workgroup Cache location overrides the Cache location specified in Practice Preferences. Configure Document and Image File Storage Locations

Open File Maintenance. In Master Files, select System > Document Management, and then select Storage Locations. The Storage Locations List window opens. Select the open menu button, and then select New. The Storage Location window opens. Storage location window In Storage Name, enter a name for the location.
