Setting Up Recommended Care Guideline Items

You can set up the recommended care guideline item using the Recommended Care practice template. After you have reviewed the custom DB picklists used by recommended care guidelines for content, recommended care guidelines themselves should be reviewed. Recommended care guideline items are reviewed and maintained on the Recommended Care practice template. Open the Recommended Care Practice Template You can access the Recommended Care practice template using the Care Guideline Setup practice template. Custom DB Picklists Used with Recommended Care

You can configure recommended care guidelines on the Custom DB Picklists template. Recommended care guidelines are configured using custom DB picklists on the Custom DB Picklists Setup system template. Medication classifications are groupings of medications by similar class or utilization, such as beta blockers and anti-hypertensives. The medication_classifications custom DB picklist is configured for: Recommended care on the Recommended Care practice template Medication classes on the Medication Classes practice template Screening questions on the Care Guidelines template Item Configured DB Picklist Used to Configure Medication Classifications medication_classifications Additional custom DB picklists are used for recommended care only. Care Guidelines Setup

On the Care Guidelines Setup template, you can set up the guideline test items. Care guidelines consist of orderable items (previously known as protocols) and recommended care items. Some guideline items are performed within a specific time interval, indicated by a date in the Due column. Items with due dates are ordered, and items without a due date are listed as a reminder to review them with the patient and update their status without having to place orders. Before you use the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines templates, you must review and ensure that the guidelines that come with the application meet the needs of the practice. For configuration, care guidelines are divided into orderable and recommended items. Using the Care Guidelines Setup practice template, you can set up orderable items. Recommended Care Practice Template

The Recommended Care practice template enables you to create or modify recommended care guidelines for your practice. These care guidelines are based on chronic conditions. When a chronic condition is added to a patient's chart, the associated care guidelines display in the Care Guidelines template. You create these care guidelines using the Recommended Care practice template. The guideline may include specific goals, statuses and compliance items. recommended_care_template When you select a row in the Recommended Care grid, the associated goal, status and compliance details appear in the corresponding grids on the right. Goals: Provides parameters for a patient to meet when following a particular guideline. Status: Provides status for a guideline to determine if it is a new guideline or existing one that might be changed. Compliance: Provides options to determine if the patient follows the recommended care guideline. Note: Prior to creating the care guidelines, you must set up all the

Configure the Recommended Care Guidelines

Before you begin You must set up the categories for recommended care on the Custom DB Picklists system template. For more information on configuring custom DB lists, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Custom DB Picklists System Template forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template. The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Recommended Care, and then select OK. The Recommended Care practice template opens. Select the condition or reason, type, and recommended care guideline. Select the goals, status, and compliance for the guideline in the corresponding grids, and then select Add. In the Recommended Care section, select Add. The added data appears in the Recommended Care grid. Note: You can update or remove a care guideline in the grid. Working with Recommended Care Guideline Items

You can select a goal for a patient using the recommended care guideline items. Recommended care guideline items do not have a check box for placing orders. They have a blue link that directs you to select a goal for the patient regarding the item. You can change this goal later.
