Place an Order for an Orderable Guideline Item

You can place an order for an orderable guideline using the Care Guidelines panel.

Orderable guideline items that are due, display the date in red font in the Next Due field. A yellow alert icon appears to the left of the date. The Status field appears as due.

  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  2. Select the Care Guidelines link on any of the main template.
    The Care Guidelines Paged View template opens.
  3. Expand the Care Guidelines panel.
  4. Review orderable guideline items active for the patient.
    • Items that are due or past due display the date in red font.
    • Items that are due in the future display a date in black font.
    • When you first activate a care guideline, items that are not due at a future date automatically display today’s date by default.
    • To sort guideline items by next due date, you can select the active text Next Due column header.
  5. Select the check box to the left of the guideline items you want to order.
    • If there is more than one test description or code associated with the guideline item, a list with all intervention equivalents configured for the guideline item opens. You can select the test you want from the list.

      A Diagnosis field becomes visible and displays the diagnosis that was selected when the care guideline that the item is part of was activated for the patient.

      The Place Orders button in the Care Guidelines panel is enabled.
    • You can select to place orders for more than one guideline item at a time.

  6. To select a different diagnosis to associate with the order, select the Diagnosis field.
  7. Select a different diagnosis and then select Save & Close.
    Your selected diagnosis appears in the Diagnosis field for the guideline item.
  8. To enter a brief comment, select the Comments field, and enter text.
  9. Select Place Orders.
    The Status is updated to ordered. Below the Status field, Ordered on appears with today’s date.

    The Diagnosis field is hidden again. The check box is no longer selected.
