You can use the Manage Procedure Groups and Codes practice template during the annual CPT® and HCPCS code updates to replace the hard-coded CPT, HCPCS, and SIMS codes with procedure groups or a default code. In addition, you can create procedure groups using Service Categories from File Maintenance. For more information on service categories, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest File Maintenance Master Files Guide forNextGen®Enterprise.
Important: The Manage Procedure Groups and Codes template can only be used to update or replace an expired procedure code with a new code if the new code is a one-to-one direct mapping from the expired code and if the description of the new code is changed to the extent that there are new criteria required for the documentation to support the code, you will need to make the necessary changes on the template to accommodate for sufficient documentation. Also, you might want to consult a coding expert to ensure that the documentation supports the new code.
