Setting Up Care Guidelines for Use

You can set up the care guidelines for a patient and document the details on the Care Guidelines template. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines template is used to handle Health Maintenance and Disease Management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link, in the top navigation tabs of all the main tabbed templates for every specialty. CAUTION: Before using the Care Guidelines template in a clinical setting with patients, content on the template should be carefully reviewed by the individuals who are responsible for maintaining the system. You can update as necessary to meet the needs of the practice. Care Guidelines link is always available on the Care Guidelines template. But, when the items are due, it is indicated by a numeric digit beside the link. Home Page On the Care Guidelines template, guidelines listed in the left side pane under Patient's guidelines

Care Guidelines Grid View

You can follow a disease or condition and health maintenance during a patient encounter on the Care Guidelines grid view template. The Care Guidelines grid view template displays only active guideline items that are due in a data grid in the Care Guidelines panel. Workflow on the Care Guidelines grid view template starts in the Care Guidelines panel. To use the care guidelines system with a patient, you have to activate a guideline. Then you can perform the tasks of reviewing and updating the status of individual guideline items in the Care Guidelines panel. Care Guidelines The activities include: Activate new or update current active care guidelines for the patient Document and update risk indicators for health maintenance Review, place orders, and update the status of guideline items Review and update diagnostic studies performed prior or elsewhere The Care Guidelines grid view template also provides access to additional information that providers may find helpful, such as screening

Activate Care Guidelines Template

You can activate a care guideline for a patient in the Activate Care Guideline template. The tasks that are done occasionally are performed on the Activate Care Guidelines template, such as: Activating a care guideline Removing a care guideline or guideline item Re-applying a removed clinical guideline or guideline item Viewing clinical references for guideline items Adding a diagnosis from the patient’s problem list to the patient's ICD billing list Reviewing care guideline history for the patient Note: You must activate a care guideline initially, usually only once. The guideline must be activated before it can be followed for a patient. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines templates are used to handle health maintenance and disease management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. The Care Guidelines templates are available from all the specialty template sets. CAUTION: The Care Guidelines templates are used in a clinical setting with patients. Individuals responsible for maintaining the system need to carefully review the content available on the templates. You can update the content as necessary to meet the needs of the practice. Open the Care Guidelines Template You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link. Care Guidelines Paged View

You can record the activities for a disease, condition, and health maintenance during a patient encounter on the Care Guidelines Paged View template. The Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines Paged View template has additional functionalities that are not available on the Care Guidelines grid view template. The activities performed during a patient enounter include: Activate a new care guideline Update a current active care guidelines Review, place orders, and update the status of guideline items Review and manage recent orders Review immunizations and track metrics Record immunization orders Review additional information that you may find helpful Decline or exclude a guideline permanently Decline or exclude a guideline for an encounter Reactivate or update a guideline that is declined or excluded in a previous encounter without having to reapply the entire guideline Modify individual active guideline items at the patient level. Clear and Restore Utility

You can clear the default content of a care guideline for any patient data. The clear and restore tools for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine include the care guidelines clear or restore report and utilities to restore default content and definitions that are packaged with care guidelines and to clear out any old care guidelines patient data. The clear and restore tools for care guidelines can be used with NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine versions 8.3.x, 8.4.x, and later. CAUTION: The care guidelines clear or restore tool should only be run during off hours. The tool is designed to evaluate all patient records, and cause serious performance issues if you run it while continuing to use the application. Functions of the clear or restore tool is based on the number of patient records in the database. After you run this tool, you cannot recover any removed data.
