Set Default Specialties for Patients

The rendering provider can select a specialty on the initial patient encounter to set it as the default visit specialty for the patient.

1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
2. Select a patient.
3. Open the Intake template from the Templates module.
   If a specialty is mapped to the rendering provider on the Framework Content system template, the default visit specialty appears in the Specialty field.
4. To select a different specialty for the patient, select the Specialty field.
   The selected specialty becomes the default for the rendering provider's future encounters with the patient.
5. To begin the documentation, select from the Visit Type list.
6. To verify the default specialty, create another encounter with the same patient and then open the Intake template.
   The default visit specialty set by the rendering provider for the patient appears in the Specialty field.

   Note: The default visit type copies forward to the rendering provider's future encounters with the same patient until the rendering provider change it.
