Set Default Specialties for Patients

The rendering provider can select a specialty on the initial patient encounter to set it as the default visit specialty for the patient. The application automatically fills the provider's selection in the Specialty field for future encounters with the same patient. The provider can reset the default visit specialty by selecting another specialty for the same patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select a patient. Open the Intake template from the Templates module. If a specialty is mapped to the rendering provider on the Framework Content system template, the default visit specialty appears in the Specialty field. To select a different specialty for the patient, select the Specialty field. The selected specialty becomes the default for the rendering provider's future encounters with the patient. Default Visit Specialty Type Configuration

You can configure a default visit type. The Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template displays all the practices, locations, and default visit specialties mapped to the rendering providers. Default Visit Specialty The specialty ( Specialty Code 1) mapped to the rendering providers in File Maintenance is the default specialty for the provider in run time. Modify Provider Information The mapped specialty appears in the Default Visit Specialty column on the Framework Content system template alongside the rendering provider name. You can view and update the default specialty details for a rendering provider. Note: If a default visit specialty is mapped to a rendering provider on the Framework Content system template, that specialty appears in the runtime for the provider. Configure the Default Visit Specialty Mapping

You can map the providers to a default specialty. You can also create multiple mappings based on the practice and location. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Framework Content system template. Select the Default Visit Specialty panel. In the grid, select a row.The provider, practice, location, and default visit specialty fill the fields on the grid. Select the Practice field. Select the Location field. Select the Default Visit Specialty field. To save the selected options, select Update. To view the default visit specialties mapped to all the rendering providers at the practice, select the filter by practice field. To view the default visit specialties mapped to the rendering provider, select the filter by provider field. Save and close the template. Configuration of Default Visit Specialty

The Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template is one of three configurable options that is used to determine the default visit specialty. Each rendering provider that you set up in File Maintenance appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid. The specialty (Specialty Code 1) mapped to the rendering provider in File Maintenance is the default specialty for the provider on the application level. The mapped specialty appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid on the Framework Content system template alongside the rendering provider name. The application determines the visit specialty when a provider first time sees a patient based on the following first qualified option: Based on provider, practice, and location in the Default Visit Specialty panel of the Framework Content system template. Update the Default Specialty for Rendering Providers

You can modify the default specialty for a rendering provider. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select File > System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. Select the System tab. Under Show, select All. A list of templates appear. Double-click Framework Content.The Framework Content template opens. In the Default Visit Specialty template, do the following: To view the default visit specialties mapped to the rendering provider, select the filter by provider field. To view the default visit specialties mapped to all the rendering providers at the practice level, use the filter by practice field. You can clear the filters by selecting the top blank row on the resulting list. Select the row.The practice, location, and default visit specialty details appear. Select the Practice, Location, and Default Visit Specialty fields to make selections for each field. Framework Content Template

The Framework Content system template allows you to customize various elements of navigation and configure the content for certain panels at the specialty, practice, and provider levels. Though NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine contains default configurations on the Framework Content system template, you can set up configurations at the practice and provider levels. Since the application is delivered with the default setup for each specialty, it is acceptable to select only a specialty on the system template. Note: NextGen Healthcare recommends that you apply the configurations at the specialty level. You must avoid or limit the use of provider-based configurations, because it is difficult to maintain a large number of setups. This is particularly important for users with a large number of providers. However, NextGen Healthcare recommends that provider-level configurations be used for providers of specialties not represented in NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. For example, Endocrinolog
