Manage the Post-Operative Period for a Patient

You can manage the number of post-op days remaining for a patient who has undergone a recent surgical procedure. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On a patient encounter, open any of the standard visit templates (for example, the Intake template). On the template header, select the Global Days link. The Global days template opens. Pre-Operative Visit and Post-Operative Visit

You can obtain the before and after the surgery details of a patient. In pre-operative (pre-op) visits, the patient's health condition and fitness for having the surgery are assessed. The physician also recommends tests to check the patient’s stability before the surgery. In post-operative (post-op) visits, the physical examination of the patient after the surgery is done. The physician documents the follow-up details and assessment and plan details of the patient after the surgery. Document Pre-Operative Visit Details You can document the details and recommend any test for a patient before surgery. Document a Cataract Post Op Plan

You can document post-operative complications after cataract surgery requiring additional surgery on the Cataract Post-Op Complications template. Information documented here also appears on the Postoperative Exam - OPH template. On the Assessment/Plan - OPH template, in the Plan section, click the Cataract Post-Op Plan link.The Cataract Post-Op Complications template opens. Click the S/P surgery field to select the procedure. Select the affected eye or eyes for the Eye field. Enter Global days, Date of surgery, and the Surgeon. Document Postoperative Concerns

You can document the type and date of postoperative complication(s) specifically for Quality Reporting reasons in A/P Details in the Assessment / Plan panel on SOAP. You can enter any pertinent comments, differential diagnoses, plan, or provider details. Also, on the Postoperative Quality Reporting template you can document if the patient has had an unplanned re-operation, hospital readmission, or surgical site infection within 30 days of the operation. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Add or Update Assessment template, select A/P Details. On the Assessment Plan Details template, select the Postoperative Quality Reporting link. Associate Procedures to Post-Operative Visits

You can associate surgical procedures with a patient's post-operative visit. The Past Orthopedic Surgeries grid displays the details of the previous surgeries documented for the patient. You can associate surgical procedures with a patient's post-operative visit from this grid on the following templates. Non Billable Visit NBV Single Fx NBV Multiple Fx If the surgery is coded on the following templates, the procedure is automatically added to the Past Orthopedic Surgeries grid with the global date and post-operative days. You can manually enter a procedure to this grid on the Intake template. Surgical History of Patients

You can document a patient's surgical history and orthopedic surgical history. You can use the following sections on the Intake template to document and view the surgical procedures performed for the patient. Orthopedic Surgical History. You can document and view the orthopedic-specific procedures performed for the patient. Surgical History. You can document and view all other surgical procedures performed for the patient. These sections are shared with several templates of the NextGen® Orthopedic Suite, and the grids in these sections display the date of surgery, global date, side, and description. The grids are sorted by DOS column, and the date of surgery can be entered in the MM/DD/YYYY, MM/YYYY, or YYYY formats. To enter a global date, the date of surgery must be in the MM/DD/YYYY format.
