Medication Fields to Configure a Medication

Field	Description
Medication	Select a medication from the list. The associated National Drug Code (NDC) ID appears in the NDC ID field. If available, the medication dosage appears in the Sig, Dose, and Units fields.
Sig	Enter the Sig values. Note: : If you enter values in the Sig field, any pre-existing values in the Dose, Units, Route, and Site fields clear. The document Sig value clears from the Sig field, if you attempt to enter values in the Dose, Units, Route, and Site fields.
Dose	If Sig is not documented, enter the number of dosage. The values entered in the Dose field appear in the Sig field.
Units	If Sig is not documented, select the unit of dosage. The values entered in the Units field concatenate in the Sig field.
Route	If Sig is not documented, select the medication route. The values entered in the Route field concatenate in the Sig field.
Site	If Sig is not documented, select the site of medication. The values entered in the Site field concatenate in the Sig field.

Configure a Medication Procedure Order

On the Procedure Order & Discharge Instruction practice template, you can configure medication procedure orders for a specific specialty and procedure. To configure specialty-specific procedure orders, click Specialty and select a Specialty from the list. The grid populates with the procedure orders pre-configured for the selected specialty. The Procedure Order option is selected by default. To configure medication procedure orders for a specific procedure, click the Procedures field and select a procedure from the list. The list includes a list of procedures configured for the specialty in the Procedure Config practice template. Click Type to select a type of order. Click Category to select a category or stage to associate with the procedure orders. Note: If the options in the list are not relevant, double-click the top-blank row in the list and enter the appropriate stage in the Category field. Enter Medication Procedure Order Details

On the Procedure Orders section, select the medication in the Medication field.The drug interaction window containing all the interactions for the selected medication opens. You must acknowledge the interactions to proceed with the order. Review the interactions and select Acknowledge. If the Sig field is blank, enter the dose, units, route, and site for the selected medication.The entered values appear in the Sig field. Note: Do not add or update the Sig value directly. Create a Customized Sig

You can create multiple customized sigs. Each customized sig appears on the Custom field list on the Edit Sig view. Open NextGen® Mobile. Select a patient, and open the RxDetails view. Renew Medications

You can renew any medication that was prescribed to a patient and subsequently saved to a patient's chart. The Start Date field in the Medications List automatically displays the date a medication is first prescribed. The first time a medication is dispensed in a renew chain, both the Original Start Date and Start Date fields in the Medications List display the same date. When the medication is renewed, the Original Start Date field remains the same while the Start Date field reflects the date of the renewal. Highlight the Inactive medication to renew. Select Renew. The Medications module displays the prescription status information for the selected medication above the medication name. The following status is displayed: Medication is Inactive Medication Was Prescribed In A Different Practice Encounter is Locked for This Medication Depending on the prescription status of the medication, you may not be able to renew the selected medication. Add User-Defined Medications Field Descriptions

You can use this table when adding user-defined medications. Field Description Brand Name Enter the brand name of the medication. Generic Name Enter the generic name of the medication. Form Select the form in which the medication is administered. DEA Class Select the Drug Enforcement Agency Class that indicates the degree of potential abuse and level of Federal control over the medication. Strength Enter the medication strength. Route Select the method in which the medication is administered. Assigned UDM ID Quantity/ Refills Set the default values for the quantity and number of refills. Generic OK Specify whether the generic brand equivalent is permitted for the medication. Default SIG Select List Codes or List Description to determine how you want the medication directions to list in the drop-down field below.
