Orthopedic Patient Encounters

The Orthopedics User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine provides an explanation and instructions on how to use the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine for Orthopedic office and virtual visit encounters, document physical exams, fracture care, and pre-operative and post-operative visits specifically for an Orthopedic patient. This document is intended for Orthopedic medical professionals, such as nurses, providers and office staff who are responsible for documenting and processing patient information. The Configuration Procedures section of this guide explains how to set up a default template for every encounter, modify the chief complaints that display in the Reason for Visit panel, configure the links on each tab, and select an alternative view for the Physical Exam data on the generated documents. Provider Workflow

You can review the patient's medical summary details on the Home Page template and then proceed to the SOAP Plan Finalize templates. The provider workflow involves: Reviewing the data documented up to this point in the encounter to obtain an overview of the patient's condition as well as updating and providing additional information as needed Documenting the presenting problem(s) and various physical exam findings Documenting the procedures performed Creating a treatment plan Documenting Evaluation and Management (E & M) codes Patient Tracking in the Provider Workflow You can update the patient tracking details using the Patient Tracking on the Patient Information Card (PIC). Review of Intake Details by Provider You can start the visit by reviewing the patient's details entered by the intake staff on the Home Page template, to determine if any updates should be made. Set Home Page - ORT as Your Default Template

The recommended workflow for the specialty is to begin a client encounter on the Home Page - ORT template. You can open the home page template for an encounter from the Templates module or set it up as the template that automatically opens for every new visit. From the File menu, select Tools > Preferences. The Preferences template opens. Preferences template Select the Templates tab. Click the down arrow in the Default Template field to select ort_home_page. Set ort_home_page template as default If required, select the option to Open from Work Flow Appts. Open Orthopedic Home Page

When you open the Home Page - ORT template, ensure to select the specialty and visit type to access the framework template set for Orthopedic. Select a patient. To open the Templates module on a patient encounter, do one of the following: On the Categories or Encounter History tab, select Open Template. On Top Toolbar, select Templates. On the main menu, select File > New > Template. The Select Template window opens. Select Medical Records and select All to display the list of templates in the Show section. Change the Physical Exam Document Display for Orthopedics

An Orthopedic practice can use a grid format to display Orthopedic physical exam content on the generated documents. When enabled, the alternative document view enables the reader to easily distinguish between the values for the right and left sides of the body and the abnormal findings are clearly marked with an asterisk and printed in upper case. This configuration setting applies only when the Specialty is set to Orthopedics. In the File menu, select System/Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. Select the Practice tab. In the Show section, click the All option. Scroll down and double-click Document Configuration. Scroll to the Orthopedic Documents section, Physical Exam Display row.
