Submit E&M Code Under 97 Coding Guidelines

Before you begin You must configure the 97 Coding Guidelines selected on the Practice Configuration practice template. For more information on the 97 Coding Guidelines, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the E&M Coding User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. Also, you must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessments panel to submit an E&M code. Open the Finalize template and then expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. Enter a start and end time. The duration calculates and displays in the corresponding field. When you enter a start and end time initially, the Time visit time (minutes) field updates with the same value. If you then edit the Time visit time (minutes) value and manually select an E&M code, the updated time overrides the original time entered. If you do not bill from NextGen® Enterprise EHR but need to meet the visit-code criteria for Clinical Quality Measures (CQMs), you can use a SNOMED® CT code instead of a CPT® code. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For a patient record, open a new encounter. Open the Finalize template. On Evaluation and Management Coding, select the SNOMED Type (optional) link. The SNOMED Type template opens. Select a SNOMED® CT code. Select Save & Close. The NextGen® HQM application uses the selected code at the registry reporting time. Note: The code is not uploaded to the Procedures or Problems modules. Enter Additional Visit Codes

You can enter two additional codes. The entered codes can be additional E&M codes, behavioral health codes, medicare preventive codes, or visit code service codes. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For a patient record, open a new encounter. Open the Finalize template. In Evaluation and Management Coding, do the following: To enter a visit code service code, select the second or third Visit code field, and then select a code from the list. Note: You can update the items in the Visit Code Service Category list in File Maintenance under Service Categories. To enter an E&M, behavioral health, or medicare preventive code, select the corresponding links, and then select the code. Add Visit Code Modifiers You can add or replace visit code modifiers. Select a Prolonged Time Code You can select a prolonged time code to report time that surpasses the threshold for code 99205 or 99215 on the Finalize template. Finalize Documentation

The Finalize (BH) template enables you to view today's assessments, today's orders, enter counseling and/or interpreter information, submit E&M codes, or select the No Billing for Service checkbox. You use the Finalize (BH) template for billing of a psychiatric evaluation. You access the Finalize (BH) template by selecting EM Coding from the Psych Eval (BH) or Psych Prog Note (BH) template. From the Finalize (BH) template, you can view today's assessments, today's orders, enter counseling and interpreter detail information, submit E&M codes, or select the No Billing for Service checkbox. Not all the panels are required for NextGen® Behavioral Health Suite workflows. Several panels do require additional configuration. Note: If you need to make changes to the Specialty or Visit Type on the Finalize (BH) template, you must close the Finalize (BH) template and reopen to update the template. You can submit a calculated or selected E&M code to the Superbill under the 95 or 97 Coding Guidelines. Before you begin You must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessments panel to submit an E&M code. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For a patient record, open a new encounter. Open the Finalize template. Expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. Evaluation and Management Coding To use a calculated E&M code, you can select the MDM level, or enter the total visit time. Enter any additional visit codes. To meet visit code criteria for Quality Reporting, select a SNOMED CT code. To override the calculated code, select an E&M code in the code options section at the bottom of the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. Note: The 99201 code cannot be selected as the code has expired on January 1, 2021. To generate a note, referral, lab order, requisition, or another document, select Generate Note and select an option. Select Submit Code. The code appears in the Submitted field. Th
