Prerequisites for Virtual Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare
Before installing a virtual Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare, you must have a VMware ESXi™ hypervisor on your server and a firewall. For clustered and load balanced appliances, you must configure the VMware ESXi™ hypervisor and your network switch.
To accommodate the virtual Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare, you must have a server with the VMware ESXi™tool and free disk space. The appliance is thin provisioned. It initially occupies only 2-3 GB of space but may grow (as circumstances require) to a maximum of 100 GB.
If you are placing the virtual Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare on a network that connects to the internet, you should have a firewall in place.
Clustered and load balanced appliances need the ability to hear other appliances' network advertisements and to properly steer traffic to the correct node. If you plan to use clustering or load balancing, notify your hypervisor and network teams that the following adjustments may be necessary:
- For VMware ESXi™ installation, the following settings are needed:
- Promiscuous mode: Accept
- MAC Address Changes: Accept
- Forged Transmits: Accept

- For Cisco Nexus® switches, the following settings are needed:
- switchport port-security maximum 4
- disable-loop-detection vrrp
- disable-loop-detection carp
- capability multi-mac
