Creating Encounters

Encounters can be created for patients from the following areas in NextGen® Enterprise PM: Appointment Book Patient Chart Tasks Menu Charge Posting Practice Preference for Required Encounter-Level Program In a practice, a program can be set to be required for an encounter for specific locations. Create an Encounter from an Appointment You can create an encounter for a patient with appointment from the appointment book. Create an Encounter from the Patient Chart You can create an encounter for a patient without appointment from the patients chart. Create an Encounter from the Tasks Menu You can create an encounter for a patient from the Tasks menu. Create an Encounter from Charge Posting You can create an encounter for a patient from charge posting. Encounters in NextGen® Enterprise PM

An encounter is an interaction between a patient and a provider in the practice on a specific date and time. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, office encounters are typically created from the appointment book when each patient checks in for their appointment. Facility encounters that are not related to an appointment, such as hospital and nursing home visits, can be created from the patient's chart. Clinical information related to a specific encounter is documented by the provider in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Financial information, such as charges, billing and transactions, is entered on that same encounter by users in NextGen® Enterprise PM. The Encounters tab on Patient Chart lists all encounters for a patient, and the Encounters Detail tab on Account Profile lists all encounters for a guarantor. Search for Accounts

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Task Menu menu, select Lookup > Accounts. The Account Lookup window opens. To search for an account, enter the search criteria data, and then select Find. Note: You can use different combinations of the search criteria to search for an account Person and employer accounts that match the search criteria appear in the Account List section of the Account Lookup window. Open Claim Status Report from Encounter Lookup

Before you begin Submit a claim request for the encounter. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, do one of the following to open the Encounter Lookup window: On the main toolbar, select Encounter. From the Tasks menu, select Lookup > Encounters. The Encounter Lookup window opens. Enter the search criteria to find the desired encounter and select Find. The Encounter List section displays the encounters matching the search criteria. Right-click the desired encounter and select Claims. Note: Alternatively, you can open the Encounter Claims Request window using one of the following methods. From the Patient Chart, on the Encounters tab, in the Encounters list, right-select the desired encounter and select Claims. Select Claims on the taskbar. Estimate Patient Cost from Encounter Lookup

For details on how to estimate patient cost, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the Pre-Services Cost Estimation User Guide for NextGen Enterprise PM. On the Encounter Lookup window, find the encounters. Right-click an encounter from the encounter list. Select Estimate Patient Cost. The Estimate Patient Cost window opens. Enable Significant Events for Encounters

Access NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, and then Significant Events. The Significant Event Information window appears.
