Add or Remove Diagnosis Codes for an Encounter

You can add or remove diagnosis codes from an existing encounter using the Payment Entry window. You cannot remove diagnosis codes if they are associated with a charge. All alternate diagnoses, such as COB1 Alt Diag, COB2 Alt Diag, and COB3 Alt Diag, appear in the Selected ICD-CM Codes list.

  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM.
  2. On the main toolbar, select Posting .
    The Batch Posting window opens.
  3. Double-click the batch header record.
    The Payment Entry window opens.
  4. Type the encounter number in Enc/Clm#, and press Enter.
    The account guarantor, patient, medical record number, and the billed account displays in the Payment Entry window.
  5. Select the Encounter Diagnosis .
    The Diagnosis Selection window opens.

  6. Select the Search Method, and then select Code or Description.

  7. In ICD-CM Codes, enter the desired code number or a partial description

  8. To search for a key phrase or number in the code value, select Search for keyphrase anywhere in the diagnosis and enter either a number or partial description in ICD-CM Codes .

  9. Do one of the following:
    • To add a diagnosis code to an encounter, select the code and select to move the code to the Selected ICD-CM Codes list.
    • To remove a diagnosis code from an encounter, select the code in the Selected ICD-CM Codes list and select to move the code to the ICD-CM Codes list.
  10. Select OK.
    The diagnosis codes that you added appear in the Patient Chart window in the ICD-CM section.
