Imaging Cache Path

The Cache Path is an additional storage location that you can set for documents and images maintained by the NextGen® Document Management application. You can use the Cache Path even if you are not licensed for remote scanning. When a Cache Path is set and you acquire an image for the first time that day, a new folder is created in the Cache Path and a page of the image is added to the folder. As you navigate through additional images, new files are added to the Cache Path folder. The items in the Cache Path stay in that folder. They are not moved to another location by the Remote Scanning Network Service. This improves the speed of performance if the cache path exists on the same network as the providers/users who are accessing NextGen® Document Management images. Before you can assign a network folder to serve as the Cache Path, the folder must be identified as a storage location in NextGen® Document Management. Set Up Storage Locations

You can set up your storage locations for patient chart items. From File Maintenance, select Master Files > System > Storage Locations. The Storage Locations List window opens. To edit an existing storage location, double-click a Storage Name. To create a storage location, select open menu and select New. The Storage Location window opens. Enter the following information: In Storage Name, enter a name for the storage location. In the Storage Type section, select the File System option. In the File Storage section, enter the path of the storage location or select open folder to select a folder you want to use as the location. In the Application section, select the EHR option. In the Note field, enter comments on the storage location, if any. Either select Next to enter another storage location or select OK to exit the Storage Location window. Imaging Practice Preferences

The Imaging Practice Preferences enable you to set archive and cache paths for the storage of all documents and images maintained by the NextGen® Document Management application. Set Up the Archive Path

In File Maintenance, access Master Files > System or PM or Document Management > Practices. The Practices List window opens. In the Practices list, double-click the practice for which you want to set the Archive Path. The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. In the Preference List, select Imaging. From the Archive Path list, select one of the pre-configured storage locations. Note: If the storage location you want to use for the Archive Path is not listed, you must create it. The network path for the folder you selected appears in the Archive Path field. Setting Up Storage Locations

A storage location is a folder on your network that holds the scanned images and documents you generate when you use NextGen® Document Management. The setup for the storage locations must exist in File Maintenance before you can assign any of them to serve as either a permanent or temporary archive or a cache for scanned images. If you are using NextGen® Document Management for a single location, then you can create only one network storage location to serve as the permanent network share location for all scanned images. CAUTION: To comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) requirements for security of patients’ medical information, you should encrypt all instances of patients’ Protected Health Information (PHI) that are stored on portable media devices using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) – 128-bit or higher.
