Real-time Address Validation Criteria
Before real-time address validation can occur, both the practice and the user must be set up for real-time address validation.
After you enter and save the address, the address fields are automatically sent to the United States Postal Service (USPS) address validation API. Each address field is compared to the address field in the USPS API and responds with a message. The address fields are Address 1, Address 2, City, State, and Zip. The name of the patient or person is not sent to the USPS API.
The USPS address validation API responds with one of the following messages:
- Valid address
- Address cannot be found. The address may not be deliverable.
- Address can be updated. The address entered may not be deliverable.
After the address validation process occurs, one of the following icons appear in the window where you add or modify the address:
- The
icon indicates one of the following:
- The USPS database cannot locate the address in the USPS address validation API.
- The USPS returns the corrected address. You can accept and update to the corrected address or you can decline the valid USPS address and use the formerly provided address.
- The
icon indicates one of the following:
- Address match found on the USPS address validation API.
- The USPS database cannot locate the provided address in the USPS address validation API.
- USPS returns the corrected address. You can update the address to the corrected address.
