Real-time Address Validation for a Provider

Real-time address validation occurs after you enter an address for a Provider and select OK to save the data. This process applies to addresses entered on the Demographics tab of the Add/Modify Provider Information window.

After you selectOKthe address is automatically sent to the USPS address validation API and compared to the addresses in the USPS database. The address fields that are sent for validation are address 1, address 2, city, state, and zip. The name of the entity is not sent.

The USPS address validation API responds with one of several messages stating:
  • Valid address.
  • Address cannot be found. This address may be undeliverable.
  • Address can be updated. The USPS provides the address found in the database.

After the address validation process occurs, one of the following icons displays above the address fields on the window.

  • - This icon indicates that an address may be undeliverable:
    • The USPS database cannot locate the address in the USPS address validation API.
    • The USPS returns a corrected address. The user declines the USPS address and uses the entered address.
  • - This icon indicates one of the following:
    • An address match was found on the USPS address validation API.
    • The USPS returns a corrected address and the user chooses to use the corrected address provided by the USPS API.
