Update the Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare Software

Updates to Mirth® applications, new features, bug fixes, and security patches are all delivered online and controlled from the appliance. To manually check for updates: On the Dashboard window, select the Check for Updates link. Select System > Software Updates. The Software Updates window appears. Select the Check for Updates button.The appliance queries the update server for available updates. During this process, the window updates with the progress as each step is completed, and a status message provides the number of available updates when the query is finished. Using the Local Certificate Authority

To resolve an issue with a mismatched certificate name, update the new values for the certificate on the Appliance SSL Certificate window. You can specify a new: Appliance (Host) Name Organization Organizational Unit City or Locality State or Province Country Email The Appliance (Host) Name field name must match the DNS name referenced by the remote side of the SSL connection. Select Update after any change is made to re-sign the local certificate with the built-in certificate authority. This process replaces the existing SSL certificate. If the remote side of the SSL connection complains about not trusting the appliance certificate authority, you can send them a copy of your CA certificate. They should be able to load this certificate into their software to establish you as a trusted source. To display this certificate, on the Appliance SSL Certificate window, select the Show_Cert link on the line that reads “This certificate is signed by: …”. You can copy the certificate for distribu

Use a Third-Party Certificate Authority

If it is necessary to use an SSL certificate from a well-known source such as VeriSign or GeoTrust, you can generate a certificate signing request. Select System > Certificates. Enter the information that you want to use in the designated fields of the Appliance SSL Certificate form. Select Generate.The window displays a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) that you can copy and use for your certificate order. Pay close attention to the required fields and format guidelines as specified by your certificate authority of choice. Note: After you have created a CSR, do not repeat the process or generate another local certificate. Doing so would render the new third-party certificate invalid. Generate a Certificate Signing Request window When you receive the new signed SSL certificate from the third-party Certificate Authority, you must prepare a chain file and return to the Appliance SSL Certificate window to upload it to the appliance. Mirth® Connect by NextGen Healthcare contacts our public license server when it starts up, and thereafter once a day in case there are changes. This is the preferred validation method, as it allows your server to pick up license changes on a real-time basis without any further intervention from you. For example if you renew your license, change your support tier (for example from Gold to Platinum) or your machine fingerprint changes, the next validation request uses and receive the most up-to-date information. SSL Manager Global Settings

The Global Settings section allows you to configure certificate expiration warning settings. These warnings take place whenever any user logs into the Mirth® Connect by NextGen Healthcare Administrator. Proactive, automatic alerts for certificate expiration/revocation are also available with the Advanced Alerting extension. For additional information, see Advanced Alerting - SSL Certificate Validation Trigger. Global Settings section for SSL Manager Login Warnings: If enabled, users will be warned upon login if any certificates are no longer valid (expired or revoked). Time Until Expiration: The minimum amount of time (for example, 7d) before a certificate expires to start warning users. If left blank, zero (0) will be assumed, meaning that users will only be warned when certificates actually reach their validity end dates. Upon logging into the Administrator, if any certificates are expired or are within the Time Until Expiration range, the user will be shown a window like this: Error
