Set Up Universal Preferences

How to use System Administrator to configure preferences that are not specific to a particular practice. To access and set up Universal Preferences: Select View > Universal Preferences. The Preferences window appears. Select the preferences folder you want to configure The window displays the available preferences. In the Preference list, double-click the preference you want to set up. A window displays for the selected preference. Enter the desired value for the preference, and then select OK. There are three types of preferences: Preference Type Description Boolean Select True to enable the preference or select False to disable it. Path Enter the path that applies to the preference. You can enter the path or select the Ellipsis button to navigate for the path. Free Text Enter the alphanumeric value to use for the preference. Note: Some Universal Preferences may include FTP (File Transfer Protocol) settings. Set up FTP settings only if your practice is using FTP to store information.

Import Universal Preferences from NextGen.ini File

If you are updating from NextGen® Enterprise PM version 3.9.x or lower and want to keep the settings, you must import Universal Preferences from the Nextgen.ini file directly into your database. Those previous versions of NextGen® Enterprise PM use the Nextgen.ini file while NextGen® Software, version 5.x uses the NGConfig.ini file. When you import Universal Preferences, the settings from the Nextgen.ini file are copied into the NGConfig.ini file. Caution: It is strongly recommended that you import Universal Preferences only during the initial setup of the NextGen® Enterprise Software, version 5.x. If you import Universal Preferences at any other time, you will override the preferences for all existing users. Change User Preferences

You can change many of the default user preferences within NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Access NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Preferences window. Select the tab that contains the preferences to change. Change the preference in the selected tab. Select Apply. Depending on your selections, a warning message may appear, informing you that the preference changes are not in effect until the next time you open the application. Select OK to close the message. User Preferences

User Preferences contain the: same list of preferences as Universal Preferences. However, user Preferences override Universal Preferences. For details about each of these preferences, see Universal Preferences. same fields that assign the NextGen® Enterprise PM User Prefs master files to the user that are on the Groups > General tab. Selections in these fields override any selections made previously on the Locations tab, at the group level, or at the user level in the NextGen® Enterprise PM User Preferences. Select the required user. Select the Preferences tab. In the list on the left side of the Preferences tab, select the folder you want to set up. The list on the right side updates to display all available preferences in the folder and any defined values. In the Preference column, double-click the preference you want to set up.
