Procedure Billing in Ophthalmology

Providers can handle procedure billing for NextGen® Ophthalmic Suite, including linking procedures to one or more diagnoses on the Procedure Billing panel on the Finalize - OPH template. The Procedures/Tests grid displays procedures performed during the encounter. Access the Finalize - OPH Template

Enter Assessments for Today's Visit

Assessments can be added to Today's Assessments in several ways, including by selecting from the patient's clinical problems or diagnosis history, the provider's list of favorite assessments, the Common Assessments template, or the diagnosis search window. New assessments can be added to various lists for the patient or the provider's My Favorites list, and they can be sorted to display in a preferred order. If a technician is acting as a scribe for the provider, select a name from the Scribe field. Review Today's Concern/Reason For Visit. Select an assessment from the grids in the following areas to add it to the Today's Assessment grid. Document the Impression

On the Assessment/Plan - OPH template, go to the Impression section. impressions section To review findings from today's encounter, do the following: Click the Eye Summary link in the Impression section. Review the patient's information and click Close. Click an assessment in the Today’s Assessments. The selected assessment displays in the Impression section. In the Impression section, enter the side and status. Information can also be entered for the following by clicking the corresponding link: Conditions Symptoms Vision Information entered for Condition, Symptoms, and Vision appear in the Impression Details field. Enter any additional information in the Impression Details field or click My Phrases. Finalize Tab for Ophthalmic Providers

You can calculate E&M coding and submit charges to billing on the Finalize - OPH template. In Ophthalmology, providers can choose to use the '97 or the 2021 E&M Code calculation or one of the codes specific to Ophthalmology referred to as Eye Codes. Prior to submitting codes to the Superbill, you can link procedures to an appropriate diagnosis, and select whether to bill for an encounter that was procedures only or an encounter where no procedures were performed. You can review E&M coding calculations and override, if appropriate, and bill for counseling services. Effective January 1, 2021, the E&M code is automatically selected based on the 2021 E&M Coding Guidelines, in which Medical Decision Making (MDM) complexity level or the total time spent with patient care and documenting the encounter is used to determine the code level. Documenting an Impression and Plan

Providers can document their assessments, impressions, plans, return to clinic orders, and enter internal physician notes on the Assessment/Plan tab. Enter Assessments for Today's Visit Ophthalmic providers can enter the assessment, impression, and plan on the Assessment Plan - OPH template.
