Copy Forward Functionality for Ophthalmic Exams

Providers can copy forward exam findings from previous encounters to the exam fields in the current encounter. There are three copy forward options: Copy Past Exam link - opens the Copy Past Exam - OPH template and displays previous exams; gives you the option to filter the exam findings by eye and select the findings you want to copy Copy last exam check boxes - copies the exam from the last visit; located above the corresponding exam fields Copy Last External/Slit Lamp and Copy Last External/Slit Lamp/Posterior - copies the last corresponding exam After you have copied-forward values from a previous encounter, you can update the exam findings to reflect today's exam. Note: Privileges for the copy-forward functionality are configured by the practice for individual providers on the Eye Configuration practice template. Copy Ophthalmic Exam Findings from Past Encounters

Before you begin You must assign exam copy-forward functionality privileges to individual providers on the Eye Configuration practice template. For more information about configuring copy-forward for exams, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Setup Guide for NextGen® Ophthalmic Suite. You can copy-forward physical exam findings documented during a past encounter on the Provider – OPH template. You can use the copied exam data as a starting point for the current encounter and make updates to reflect today's exam. Select the Provider tab to open the Provider – OPH template, then expand the Physical Exam panel. Click the Copy Past Exam link below the physical exam grids.The Copy Past Exam – OPH template displays All Providers and the Last 5 Exams. copy past exam - oph template To filter the exams by current provider, select Current Provider in the Show section. Document a Physical Exam (Technicians/Assistants)

The following steps describe the general workflow for documenting findings for Ophthalmology physical exams. While there are differences in the parameters being documented for each exam, the process of entering the data in the exam section on the Physical Exam panel and on the individual exam detail templates is similar for many parameters of most exams. At the top of the panel, indicate the following for the patient: Mood/Affect – Select Normal or Abnormal. Orientation – Select Oriented x3 or Abnormal. Locate the data entry fields for the exam you wish to document on the panel. To document a more detailed exam, click the exam link to the left of the Physical Exam grids to open the corresponding detailed exam template. When the Physical Exam panel is on the Provider - OPH template, an exam link is also found in the exam data entry section on the panel. Physical Exams in Ophthalmology

On the Provider - OPH template, the Physical Exam panel includes: Exams performed by the technician or assistant, which are later to be reviewed and updated by the provider Exams that are performed only by the provider Providers can update exams using the following options to document in the Physical Exam panel: Exam links in the left pane of the OD and OS grids Other links in the panel Exam fields Abnormal exam findings appear in the grids with an exclamation mark and a red circle appears in the left pane next to the corresponding exam. You can use the Refresh button to update the grids after you document or update exam findings. Document an External Exam

On the LV Exam - OPT template, expand the Physical Exam panel. To copy the last documented external exam findings to the current exam fields, select the Copy last exam check box. Note: You must have access to use copy-forward. If all external exam findings are normal, select the appropriate External WNL check box for each eye. Exam parameter fields fill with normal default finding values. Enter the pupil size for Dim and Bright light for each eye. Document OD and OS findings as follows: Click Findings field, and select a value from the list. Abnormal findings appear in red font. Click the Modifier field, and select a value from the list. If OD and OS findings for a parameter are the same for both the eyes, click the arrows between the OD and OS fields to copy an entry from one eye to the other. Repeat the steps above for each exam parameter you want to document. To save the documented values as the default values, click the Quick Save, and enter a name for the template. This feature en
