Add a New Test in the Ophthalmology Diagnostic Tests Data Set
- From the Data Sets Setup practice template, click Add.
The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Tests Setup template opens.
- On the Ophthalmic Diagnostic Tests Setup template, click the Clear button to clear any values that display in the edit fields above the grid.
Add is enabled.
- Enter a value for Test type.
- Click the Test type field and select from the Procedures search window.
The selected procedure automatically fills the Test type field and its associated code fills the Billing/Test code field.
- If the Billing/Test code edit field already has a value, this value can be edited using free text.
The Test type field automatically fills with the description associated with a billing/test code selected from the Procedures search window. - Click the Test type field and select from the Procedures search window.
- Enter a value for Billing/Test code.
- Click the field and select from the Procedures search window.
The selected procedure automatically fills the Billing/Test code field and its description automatically appears in the Test type field.
- To select a billing test code not found in the Procedures search tool, click Cancel and manually type in the test code.
This test code must be listed in the NextGen Compendium if this test is to be sent to the Order module.
The Billing/Test type field automatically fills with the billing/test code associated with a description selected from the Procedures search window.Note: Both billing and order module codes are required while adding a new diagnostic test. The combination of billing code and order module code must be unique. Existing diagnostic tests must also be updated by adding the order module code if it is not already added - Click the field and select from the Procedures search window.
- Select a category by clicking in the licking the Category field and selecting a value from the DB picklist.
This is a custom DB picklist that is maintained on the Custom DB Picklists system template.
- The Edit field is read-only and automatically fills with the value U when you are adding a new test to the data set; otherwise, it is populated with the value NG.
- If the Edit field displays NG, you will not be able to change the category.
The Test type and Billing/Test code fields can be updated to display edited values. (To select a different category, you must hide the original and re-create a copy of the diagnostic test.)
- If the Edit field displays U, you can select a different category.
The Billing/Test code and Test type values you selected remain.
- Select a Billing type: Bilateral, Unilateral, or Not billable
- Select the vendor and vendor ID by clicking the Vendor field and selecting a value from the DB picklist.
The Vendor field displays the selected vendor name, and the ID field automatically displays the ID code associated with the vendor. A vendor and vendor ID is required when you select the Send to module check box.
- Select other options for the test:
- Send to module
- Computerized provider order entry
- Use TC and 26 modifiers
- Hide on test ordering popup
Note: User must select either Special Modifier option or TC and 26 option while adding a new diagnostic test. Existing diagnostic tests must also be updated to have only one of the check boxes to be selected and not both. - Click Add.
The grid refreshes to display a new row for the modified test with the updated details.
- Click Close.
The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Tests Setup template closes, and you return to the Data Sets Setup practice template.
