Identifying Person and Patient

NextGen® Enterprise stores information related to both patients and non-patients. Non-patients are referred as persons in one of the following categories:

  • A new patient who is not yet checked in for the first appointment.
  • A guarantor for a patient in the practice.
  • An emergency contact for a patient in the practice.

All persons and patients have demographics records that includes non-clinical information such as their name, date of birth, address, and phone number.

Only patients have charts that includes clinical and financial information related to their encounters in the practice. Patients also have medical record number (MRN) assigned to their patient charts.

You can use icons to easily identify and distinguish a person from a patient.

Alerts icon on the Patient Chart view opens the patient alerts.

Globe icon to indicate person on the Patient Chart view indicates that the individual is a person.
