Add Custom Words to the User Dictionary

To ensure accurate dictation results, you can add custom words to your speech profile and save them in categories, such as person names, location names, medicines, procedures, and diagnoses.

For example, you can replace similar-sounding provider names with different spellings, such as Carter and Karter. You can also add abbreviations, such as CHF, to appear in the transcription when you dictate congestive heart failure.

  1. Open NextGen® Mobile Cloud Portal.
  2. Select your clinic, select Manage Clinics, and then select Users.
  3. In Users, search for and select a user, and then select the Personal Dictionary tab.
  4. Select Add New.
The Add New Word window opens.
  5. Enter the word you want to replace and the new word that should replace it.
    Enter melena and Melan-A, respectively.
  6. Select a category to save the word, and then select Done.
During dictation, when you use the word melena, the dictionary replaces melena with Melan-A.
The selected category grid displays the added word. You can edit and delete the custom words.

During dictation, you can omit dictated words from the transcription by adding them to the Excluded category. For example, you can exclude filler words, such as um, ah, and hmm.
