Adjust Field Properties and Layout

After you have inserted a field on your template, you can view and update its properties. You can also visualize field properties and resize, move, and align fields. Do one of the following: To display the shortcut menu, right-click the field, and then select Properties. From the Template Editor Menu bar, select View, and then select Properties. The Properties window for that field appears. To update properties, see the topic on inserting that field type and to the topics on Set General Properties for Multiple Fields and Field Font and Color Properties. Insert a Button Field

Drag the Button icon from the Fields toolbar to the template design area where you want to place it. The Insert a Button window opens. In the Caption box, enter the text to appear on the button. You can enter the % symbol in the Caption box to replace the numeric values. The % takes the value from the start number and number of buttons. Note: Instead of entering the caption here, you can use in-place caption editing to enter the caption directly in the field after you have created it. To reposition and resize the field on the template, do the following: Enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current vertical and horizontal coordinates in the Position boxes. Enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current dimensions displayed in the Size boxes. To apply a style to the button, select the applicable check boxes under Styles. Insert a Note Field

The note field is saved as a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) file only if the contents of the field have been changed and the Disable Saving Blank Notes Universal Preference is set to True in System Administrator. In a trigger condition or value calculation, to check if a note field is empty, use the ISEMPTY string function. The maximum data size for a template is 7940 characters. The total data size is the sum of the length of all data entry fields. A message box appears when you try to add or modify fields and you have reached the maximum data size. Drag the Note Icon from the Fields toolbar to the template design area where you want to place it. The Insert Note window opens. Note: You may need to enlarge your template to make room for the note field. The Make Public check box appears on this window only when the note field is on a sub template. Define the table. Insert Data Fields in Form and Label Templates

When you design forms and labels, you can use the NextGen Data Repository window to select and place the data fields that you want displayed when you print your custom designed forms or labels. To insert data fields in a form or label template: Open the template in File Maintenance. In the Form Design window, select Insert Data Field . The NextGen Data Repository window opens. Double click on the applicable icon to display the data fields for that icon. Insert a data field in one of two ways: Select and drag the data field onto the Form Design window and release the mouse button when you have positioned the data field where you want it placed. If you want to adjust its position on the form, select and drag it again. Select an item in the list, and then select Add. Use any of the following options to design the fields: To select more than one field, select the Shift key while you select the fields. To align multiple fields, select the fields. Manage Template Properties

Always review the existing fields tab order after you create a new template. Make any necessary changes to the default fields tab order. Open the Template Properties window. The Fields Tab Order tab appears by default. In the Fields Tab Order tab, do the following: Select a field. To move the field up or down in order, select the Up or Down button. To move the field to the top or the bottom in order, select the Top or Bottom button. In the Font and Color tab, do the following: To change just the font size, select the Size up or down arrow to select a new size. From the Style list in the Font and Color tab, select the new style. To change the entire font, select Font to display the Font window. Select the font, font style, and size. If applicable, you can select another language script. Change Field Style Trigger

The Change Field Style action enables you to change the style of the selected data entry (edit), check box, radio button, and note fields. Depending on the field type, you can apply the Normal, Read-Only, Required, or Required Read style. You can select one or multiple fields at a time using a single trigger. For example, you can set up triggers to change the field style to Read-Only for all fields containing lab results after these fields are populated. Follow the applicable steps in General Trigger Setup. Select the Change Field Style action. The Change Field Style window lists all of the template fields that can change field style. In the Available Template Fields pane, select each field for which you want to change style, and select Add. The selected field displays in the Fields to Change pane and the OK button is enabled. You can select the multiple fields by selecting the Ctrl button. You can remove the selected fields by selecting the fields from Fields to Change pane and select
