The Create New Encounter action creates a clinical encounter for items/charges not yet received that need to be tracked and billed separately. This trigger returns an encounter ID to a designated field or variable on your template.
 
 
  - Follow the applicable steps in General Trigger Setup.
 
  - To open the Create New Encounter window, select the  Create New Encounter action. 
   
    
    Note: You must complete both fields to turn on the OK button.
    
 
     
  - From the Encounter Date list, select the applicable field or variable: 
   
    
     - Template field for date input.
 
     - @EncDate, which is assigned from the template field.
 
     - @Today for today's date.
 
     - @Current Encounter for the current encounter's date. 
      
Note: You can assign a date to the encounter using the current date or a date in the past. You cannot assign a future date to the encounter.
      
 
    
    
   
    If you specify an encounter date that duplicates an existing encounter date, a message, An encounter already exists today, are you sure you want to create a new one?, appears at run time.
   
 
  - To suppress this message, select the Allow Duplicate Encounter For Same Date check box.
 
  - From the  Encounter ID list, select the template field or variable to assign the encounter ID to. 
 
  - If necessary, set up a specific condition for the Create New Encounter action to be triggered. 
 
  - To save the trigger and close the Trigger Info window, select OK. 
   
    The trigger is listed in the Triggers window.
   
 
  - Select OK and save your template.
