Return the Unique ID of an Inserted Procedure

When you execute the Patient Procedure trigger to insert a procedure, you can return the unique ID for the procedure to a template field or variable. This feature enables you to: Obtain the unique ID directly from the template, without interrupting your workflow to access the Procedures Module. Confirm that the patient procedure has been inserted in the Procedures Module. The Insert action returns one unique ID per procedure. Service Item Master (SIM) Group procedure codes are supported; a unique ID is assigned to each service item in the group. Apply the procedure against a particular patient encounter. You can specify a locked encounter if you are consolidating all procedures for a case on one encounter for billing purposes. To set up preferences for applying the procedure against a locked encounter, in File Maintenance, select the Enable In Progress Billing status and Allow Execution of EHR procedure trigger against locked encounter check boxes on the Encounters tab of the Practice

Bill All Charges on a Case to One Encounter

All charges throughout the course of a case can be associated with a particular encounter. Each charge does not have to be submitted on a separate encounter if the original encounter is in locked status. A practice can consolidate all procedures on one encounter for billing. Other encounters used to document care over the course of treatment can be marked as clinical only to support clinical documentation. They do not appear in NextGen® Enterprise PM. Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes can be added, modified, or deleted against a locked encounter in this manner: In File Maintenance, select the following Practice Preferences on the Encounters tab: Enable In Progress Billing status Allow Execution of EHR procedure trigger against locked encounter Note: You must select the Enable In Progress Billing status check box first to enable selection of the Allow Execution of EHR procedure trigger against locked encounter check box. Allowing Patient Procedure Trigger to Modify Locked Encounter Charges

In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, you can allow the patient procedure trigger to add, modify, or delete charges (CPT codes) for encounters in a locked status. You might want to allow this action, for example, if some offices or specialties provide care to a patient over a period of time. Because the cost of care cannot be accurately predicted, these offices or specialties would need to hold the charge (CPT code) until the clinician determines the patient’s specific treatment regimen is complete. When the trigger is allowed to modify charges, users can associate all charges throughout the course of a case with one specific encounter regardless of the encounter lock status instead of the users submitting each charge on independent encounters. The practice can consolidate all procedures onto one encounter that will be used for billing in NextGen® Enterprise PM. Add a Task to an Existing In-Progress Encounter

When you run the Add New Task trigger to add a NextGen® Enterprise PM task, you can link the task to an existing In-Progress encounter. An In-Progress encounter captures charges and transactions for work or care that has not been completed or delivered. This feature enables you to: Avoid generating new encounters when an appropriate In-Progress encounter exists for a new NextGen® Enterprise PM task that you are generating in a NextGen® Enterprise EHR template. Ensure that all NextGen® Enterprise PM tasks related to a given In-Progress encounter are identified correctly so your business operations are not adversely impacted. CAUTION: If an In-Progress encounter ID is not available for return to the trigger, use alternate means to ensure that tasking can be completed. In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the patient's chart.
