Bill All Charges on a Case to One Encounter

All charges throughout the course of a case can be associated with a particular encounter. Each charge does not have to be submitted on a separate encounter if the original encounter is in locked status. A practice can consolidate all procedures on one encounter for billing. Other encounters used to document care over the course of treatment can be marked as clinical only to support clinical documentation. They do not appear in NextGen® Enterprise PM. Patient Procedure Trigger Overview

You can execute a Patient Procedure trigger to add, update, or delete a procedure directly from a template to the patient's procedure list. The procedure is included in the Procedures and Superbill modules. It is also displayed in encounter history. The trigger can be used to post a diagnosis code to the current encounter even if the same code was posted to prior encounters on the patient's chart. When you insert a procedure, you can return its unique ID. The Patient Procedure trigger is set up in Template Editor. Allowing Patient Procedure Trigger to Modify Locked Encounter Charges

In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, you can allow the patient procedure trigger to add, modify, or delete charges (CPT codes) for encounters in a locked status. You might want to allow this action, for example, if some offices or specialties provide care to a patient over a period of time. Because the cost of care cannot be accurately predicted, these offices or specialties would need to hold the charge (CPT code) until the clinician determines the patient’s specific treatment regimen is complete. When the trigger is allowed to modify charges, users can associate all charges throughout the course of a case with one specific encounter regardless of the encounter lock status instead of the users submitting each charge on independent encounters. Add a Task to an Existing In-Progress Encounter

When you run the Add New Task trigger to add a NextGen® Enterprise PM task, you can link the task to an existing In-Progress encounter. An In-Progress encounter captures charges and transactions for work or care that has not been completed or delivered. This feature enables you to: Avoid generating new encounters when an appropriate In-Progress encounter exists for a new NextGen® Enterprise PM task that you are generating in a NextGen® Enterprise EHR template. Ensure that all NextGen® Enterprise PM tasks related to a given In-Progress encounter are identified correctly so your business operations are not adversely impacted. CAUTION: If an In-Progress encounter ID is not available for return to the trigger, use alternate means to ensure that tasking can be completed. In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the patient's chart. Update a Procedure in a Patient Chart

You can modify an existing procedure as long as it is not assigned to a locked encounter. Also, you cannot make changes to a procedure that has an associated charge processed within NextGen® Enterprise PM. If you have the Auto-closing option enabled in the Practice Preferences and the charges associated with the selected procedure have been processed through NextGen® Enterprise PM prior to midnight of the previous day, the Financial Data cannot be modified due to the 24 hr rule message window opens. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. On the Encounter History tab, select an existing encounter or create an encounter. On the Top Toolbar, select . Open a Template

In NextGen Care® Population Management Hub, to view the patients list, do one of the following: From the Cohorts tab, run a report. From the My Lists tab, run a list. From the Appointment Book tab, filter the patients. The patient list appears in the patient grid. In the patient grid, select the check box to the left of the patient's name. From Chart, select EHR Chart. A list appears displaying up to ten favorite templates. Do one of the following: To open a template with an existing unlocked encounter, select an encounter from the required template. To open a template with a new encounter, select the template name, and then select Yes to create a new encounter. Note: For NextGen® Enterprise EHR version 5.9 or earlier, you cannot select an encounter from NextGen Care® Population Management Hub.
