LOINC Codes

After the NextGen Compendium is loaded, you load the LOINC codes. The LOINC codes contain the following information: Column Column Content Row Type New or different (updated records) indicator LOINC Code The LOINC code is the unique identifier for the LOINC record to facilitate the exchange and pooling of results for clinical care, outcome management, and research. Component Description Contains information on what is measured, evaluated or observed. Long Common Name This is the long common name assigned to this LOINC code. User Description This value can be edited by the user. Property This is the observed property of the LOINC component (for example, substance concentration, mass, volume) Time Aspect The time of the measurement (over time or momentary) System The origin of the specimen (for example, blood donor, fetus, or blood product unit) Scale Type This column identifies the scale of measurement of the LOINC component. Method Type This column identifies the method of measurement

Update LOINC Codes

Open Orders Management Console. Select LOINC. Select Download. It can take several minutes to download and load the file because of the large number of records to process. Each LOINC code has a Component Description, a Long Common Name and User Description (see the How To for details). Notice that you can select a filter and show only New information or only Different information. The default filter is No filter. When you perform a save, a pop-up window reports how many of each type of update have been made (NEW, DELETED, CONFLICTS, or DIFFERENCES). Parent topic: LOINC Codes

Update LOINC Codes with the Orders Management Console

Double-click the shortcut on the desktop or select the Orders Management Console from the application launcher. Enter your login credentials. The Orders Management Console window opens. Select LOINC codes and select Download. The list of new LOINC codes available displays. If no new codes are available, a message appears stating that there are no records to process. To help with the processing of each new test, use the row and cell color of the LOINC code. Select Save Modified or Save to make the test updates permanent. Buttons Function You can choose to filter the new items by New Information only Different information only If selected, the differences are highlighted in the compendium list and the blue arrows are activated to move through the differences. If not selected, the differences are shown as plain text. Moves through the new LOINC code list one at a time, or moves to the beginning or end of list. Select this button to get information on how to edit compendium data. Save modified LOINC records. Update (Save) displayed LOINC records. Select File Maintenance > System > Order Components. Select open menu , and then New to create a component, or select an existing component to open it. Select the folder button. In the Available field, search on a Code or Clinical Name for the component. Select the correct code to highlight it. Select the right-arrow to add it to the Included list.
