Stopping Medications

You are able to stop a medication that was prescribed to a patient. When you stop an active medication, the Medications module adds the current date as the stop date and then moves the medication to the Inactive section. Cancel an Electronic Prescription In the Medications module, you can cancel a prescribed medicine and send a cancellation message to a participating pharmacy. Tracking the eRx Status The eRx Status and Dispense History windows enable you to track the status of cancelled electronic prescriptions. No Active Medications Indicator

The No Active Medications check box is selected when the patient in context has no active medications in their chart. When a new medication is prescribed, the check box is automatically cleared. When an active medication is deactivated (either manually or by surpassing the stop date), stopped, or deleted and there are no active medications listed for the patient, the No Active Medications check box is selected again. Setting Up Medication Deletion Reasons

To allow users to apply a reason when they delete previously prescribed medications, you must activate the Prompt for Prescribed Medication Deletion Reason and add custom reasons that users can select. The system includes a history of the deleted medication for traceability and may send a CancelRx request to the pharmacy to ensure the prescription is not dispensed to the patient. Cancel an Electronic Prescription

Before you begin You must enable Yes for eRx Permissions Practice Rights access in System Administrator. You must be enrolled for Cancel Rx service level in File Maintenance. Only pharmacies with the Cancel Rx service level can receive cancellation messages Pharmacy must participate in receiving Cancel Rx requests. You can send a Cancel Rx request to a pharmacy. If a medication was prescribed over two years ago, you can only stop or mark a medication as ineffective and cannot send a Cancel Rx request. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select an active medication prescribed less than two years ago. The Last Audit column must have the eRx value. Select Cancel Rx. A message appears indicating that the medication has been cancelled and a cancellation message will be sent to the pharmacy. Select OK. The medication becomes inactive and a cancellation message is sent to the participating pharmacy. The Stop Date is updated in the Inactive grid and the Cancel Rx option beco

Stop a Medication

You can stop a medication or mark the medication as ineffective in the Medications module when one of the following conditions are met: You are not enrolled to Cancel Rx. You are enrolled to Cancel Rx and the medication was prescribed more than two years ago. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select an active medication. To stop multiple medications, either select and hold the Shift key and select the desired medications or select and hold the Ctrl key and select multiple medications. The Last Audit column must be same when selecting multiple medications to Stop or Mark Ineffective. Select the arrow on the Stop button, and then select either Stop or Mark Ineffective. If you mark an active medication as ineffective, a stop type Rx Note is automatically added to the medication. The note includes text indicating it was stopped due to ineffectiveness. If you try to prescribe the ineffective medication, an Ineffective Warning is displayed on the Drug Interactions window
