Setting up Vaccine Custom Names

The Vaccine Custom Name option enables you to create custom names for vaccines or update existing Vaccine Custom Names in File Maintenance. For example, your practice refers to the pediatric combination vaccine DTap-Hib-Polio (IPV) by the trade name Pentacel. Therefore, for increased consistency and efficiency, when selecting immunizations, your practice would prefer the system display Pentacel rather than the standard CPT/CVX Name. By setting up the Vaccine Custom Name, the system enables you to search by this name when selecting an immunization. It also displays the custom name in the Select Vaccine favorites list on the Select Vaccines tab (if it has been added to the Vaccine Favorites in File Maintenance). You can also update the Vaccine Custom Name in File Maintenance, if necessary. Note: When you set up vaccine custom names for one practice, the system applies the custom name to the appropriate vaccine for all of the practices in your enterprise. Update a Vaccine Custom Name

In File Maintenance, select System > EHR > Vaccine Custom Name. The Vaccine Custom Name List window opens. To update a Vaccine Custom Name, select the Open Menu button, and then select Update or double-click the vaccine in the Vaccine Custom Name List window. The Vaccine Custom Name List window opens. Highlight the original record (that is, the CVX and Custom Name). Update the Vaccine Custom Name, for example: Kinrix DTap-IPV. If your practice wants to update the Vaccine Custom Name as a favorite, select the Update Vaccine Favorites check box. Note: The system updates the Vaccine Custom Name for all practices in the enterprise, not just the current practice you are logged on. To save the Vaccine Custom Name, select OK. When the user creates or updates an Immunization order, on the Select Vaccines tab, the system displays the Vaccine Custom Name when a user searches for a vaccine. Scenario: Your practice wants to set up a vaccine custom name for the adult combination vaccine Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B using the trade name Twinrix. In File Maintenance, select System > EHR > Vaccine Custom Name. The Vaccine Custom Name List window opens. To add the Twinrix Vaccine Custom Name, select the Open Menu button, and then select New. The Add Vaccine Custom Name window opens. Select the vaccine from the CPT Description list. For example, the 90636 CPT description is Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B. In the Vaccine Custom Name field, enter Twinrix. Note: The system applies the Vaccine Custom Name to all practices in the enterprise, not just the current practice you are logged on. To update the Vaccine Custom Name as a favorite, select the Update Vaccine Favorites check box. To save the Vaccine Custom Name, select OK.
