Search for a Medication
Open the
Medication Search
window.
If you perform a regular medication search, the next time you open the
Medication Search
window, the
Find
pane is highlighted.
If you use Medication Favorites to search, the next time you open the
Medication Search
window the Favorites pane is highlighted.
Select
Use Formulary
to perform a Formulary Search for a medication.
Note:
To use Formulary Search, you must have either Surescripts or InfoScan services enabled.
Select
Search
and select a search type from the list.
You can perform a search in the following ways:
On all medications
On First Databank medications
On medications listed on a
Medication Search
favorites list.
To filter your search based on medication class, select a medication class from the
Class list
.
Select
Filters
and select one or more of the following from the list:
Brand
,
Generic
,
Problem
, or
Payer
.
For
Find
, enter a full or partial name of a medication.
Make a selection from the results, or enter more specific search criteria.
If the selected medication is available in multiple brands, the following message appears.
To prescribe, select a brand and select
Yes
.
Select a Favorites List and drag a medication into the list.
Do one of the following:
Select

Right-click and select
Prescribe
.
Double-click the medication.
Drag-and-drop the medication to the Selected Medications list and select

.
Note:
To use the Selected Medications list, the
Medication Cart
and
Add to Cart
Display Options must be enabled.
You can select multiple medications from your Favorites List.
You can select multiple medications by holding the
Ctrl
key on your keyboard while making your selection.
If you have Medication Interactions enabled, the interactions check is performed on all selected medications.

Use Formulary Search
Do one of the following: Select Medication Search. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Medication Search In the Formulary field, select the formulary provider. In the Find field, enter a full or partial medication name, and then select the appropriate name from the list of matches. Medication Search window The search results display the following: OTC (Over the Counter) next to the target medication. Generic next to the parent medication when known. No value appears when a brand exists for the medication. From the list of medications in the search results, select the applicable medication dosage. Any related Formulary Note, Copay, and Coverage information appear. Any available formulary alternatives that are at a higher formulary status than the selected dosage appear in the list. Alternatives list with all strengths, not just the strength equal to the target medication. Either payer alternatives or therapeutic alternatives display, but not both. If payer alternat

Open the Medication Search window. From the View menu, select Default Filter Options. The Medication Search - Default Filter Options window opens. Medication Search - Default Filter Options window Do the following as applicable: To view the brand name of the medications, select Brand. To view the generic name of the medications, select Generic. To view a list of medications appropriate to a particular diagnosis, select Patient Problems. To view the selected health plan of the patient, select Payer. To view all medications available in the database, select All Medications. To view your favorite medications, select Favorite Medications and then select your favorite from the list. Select Apply. Set Up Medication Search Favorites List
You can use favorites lists in medication search to create a list of frequently used medications grouped by the favorite name. You can prescribe a medication from a favorite list without performing a search. Open the Medication Search window. Medication Search Select the untitled tab. The Favorites 1 tab appears. Favorites 1 tab Search for a Medication to add to your favorites list. The Medication Search window displays the results of your search. The icon indicates there is a PDR Brief for the displayed medication. Medication Search results Select a medication and drag it in the Favorite 1 tab. Select a medicine and drag to Favorite 1 tab To remove medications from the favorites list, right-click the medication and select Remove. Right-click the tab or tab display pane and select Rename Group. The field to enter the favorite group name displays next to Rename Group. Rename Group Enter a name for the favorites list.
