Encounters in NextGen® Enterprise EHR

An encounter is an interaction with a patient on a specific date at a specific time. An encounter can be a visit, a phone call, a virtual visit, a referral, a test result, or an interaction. A patient can have more than one encounter per day. Patient encounters are displayed on the Encounters tab. You can expand or collapse the Encounters tab using the Double arrow button above the Quick Buttons panel. Each row in the Encounters tab represents one encounter. Encounters are identified by date and time, provider, and location. The Encounters tab displays basic information of an encounter like the rendering provider, location, appointment type/reason for visit, templates and documents related to the appointment. The Encounters tab displays the list of encounters created for the selected patient and includes the following components: New Creates an encounter. Open Template Displays available templates. Overview of the Main Window

The NextGen® Enterprise EHR main window components include the Title Bar, Main Menu, Top Toolbar, Patient Information Card, Quick Buttons panel, Encounter History/Categories view panel, and calendars. You can configure the practice preferences settings in File Maintenance to display the Multiple Document Interface (MDI) tabs and customize the system date format. NextGen® Enterprise EHR supports standard-keyboard shortcuts for several functions of the main window. Customize the System Date Format

NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to customize the date format used throughout the system. The default settings are set to display the date in the following format: MM/DD/YYYY, for example, 09/10/2017. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR main window. Right-click the system date located on the Status bar of the NextGen® Enterprise EHR application, and select Date Properties. The Date Properties window opens. To change to a user-defined setting throughout the system, select Use Custom. To change the update rate for the system date, select the up or down arrow in the Update Date/Every Min section. The default is set to update the system date every minute. You can change the setting to any rate from 1 minute to 60 minutes. Under Custom Format, select the date format to use throughout the system. For example, if you select the format Month/Day/Year, the date would appear as February 08, 2017. To accept the changes, select OK. The system displays the user-defined date format. To cancel the change

Application and Patient Information

The title bar appears at the top of NextGen® Enterprise EHR main window and displays the application and patient name. When you open a module, the module name also appears on the title bar. If you open other items, such as templates, documents, or images, the item name and time stamp appear on the title bar. In case of images, the image dimensions also appear. You can display the following additional patient identifiers based on your practice preferences settings.
