NextGen Document Storage

You can store patient chart items (such as documents, images, notes) in your NextGen environment in the following ways: In the local document path set up in Universal Preferences in the System Administrator module. In multiple storage locations for patient chart items NextGen® Enterprise EHR offers the ability to store patient chart items in separate directories that are automatically separated by date. Note: If you enable multiple storage locations for patient chart items, it automatically overrides the directory setting for the item type specified in Universal Preferences. For information on how to set up this feature, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Multiple Storage Locations for Patient Chart Items in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. In the Binary Large Object (BLOB) table in the NextGen database or in an external database In the System Administrator module, you can permanently set a System Info option to Store All Patient Files as BLOBs going forward. Set Up BLOB

By default, all patient files are stored as flat files on the hard disk. You can change this setting so that all patient files are stored as BLOBs (Binary Large Objects) in the database. Note: If you enable this option, you cannot disable it at a later time. For information about using BLOBs, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Signature Blobulizer Utility Guide for NextGen Ambulatory EHR . To store all patient files as BLOBs, select the View menu > System Info. The NextGen System Info window appears. Select the Store Patient Files As BLOBs check box. Select OK. Patient Documents

Patient documents in NextGen® Enterprise EHR can be a medical or lab report, a referral form, a professional letter, or any other custom-designed form. You can generate new patient documents from previously created user-defined format documents in the Document Builder. When a patient document is generated, macros in format documents insert data from selected template fields. A patient document can be created locally or remotely on a remote workstation. The patient documents are attached to the applicable encounter in the patient's chart. The patient's chart may also contain documents created outside Document Builder. Third-party documents are imported through the NextGen® Interface Engine Document Import Agent. NextGen® Health Information Exchange (HIE) and Continuity-of-Care (CCD) documents are attached to the NextGen® HIE Documents Category of the Categories tab.
