Change the DUR Geriatric Precautions Display Level

As necessary, you can adjust the specific Geriatric Precaution levels you want to view. From the Tools menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. DUR Preferences Select the Geriatric Precautions Display Level tab. DUR Preferences Set the display to a specific level or select the Use System Default check box to display the Interactions based upon the universal system setting. If necessary, select Help to view the Interaction Display Level Help window. Select OK. CAUTION: You cannot set the Display Level lower than the required system minimum. The medication interactions process displays geriatric precautions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. There are two levels of the Geriatric Precautions: Level 1 - Contraindications. Contraindicated for use in the elderly. Level 2 - Management or Monitoring Precautions. Geriatric Precautions

Geriatrics Precautions contain information about the use of medications by patients who are over the threshold set for geriatric age. The NextGen® Enterprise default for geriatric age is 65 years of age; however, you can modify the age threshold by changing the value of the Geriatric Age Universal Preference. When a contraindication exists, the DUR displays the following information: Severity level of the precaution Indicators for select organ systems associated with the precaution Precaution narrative You must acknowledge all drug interactions and select a reason for overriding the warning before you can add the medication. The medication interaction process displays pediatric precautions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. There are three levels of the Pediatric Precaution: Level 1 - Contraindications. Contraindicated for use in Pediatric patients. Level 2 - Severe Precautions. Precaution is necessary for use with Pediatric patients. Level 3 - Management or Monitoring Precautions. No studies have been done, but warnings exist about use in Pediatric patients. Levels of Disease Contraindications

The Medication Interactions functionality displays drug-disease contraindications according to the display levels set up for the system and a specific user. There are three levels of the Drug Disease Contraindications: Level 3: Moderate Interactions. Conservative measures are recommended until more is known (little clinical data exists). Level 2: Severe Interactions. Assess risk to patient and take action as needed. Level 1: Contraindicated Interactions. Action to reduce adverse effect of interaction is usually required.
