Viewing Patient's General Information

The patient's general information includes the patient's photo, name and preferred name; these elements are non-configurable. You can configure other demographic and non-demographic information to display on the Patient Information Card (PIC). You can configure the locations where various types of data points are displayed, including: date of birth, age, gender, preferred pronouns, address, contact information, marital status, spouse name, number of children, and smoking history, to name a few. Important: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) information is unprotected and visible to any user by default. The system administrator can configure the protected content settings in the Enterprise Preferences window in File Maintenance, which makes the patient's SOGI information appear as Protected Content in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. View the Patient Information Card

When you open a patient's chart, the patient's information appears on the Patient Information Card (PIC) in the default expanded view. The PIC's position is fixed and always visible from any clinical module or template within the NextGen® Enterprise EHR workflow. You can collapse the PIC when you need more workspace for other modules or templates. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Search for and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. The patient chart opens and the expanded view of the PIC appears by default. To collapse the PIC, select button. Note: In the collapsed view, you can select Profile Options to view and select templates that are available in the expanded view of the PIC. To return to the expanded view, select button. Identify SOGI Fields as Protected Content

The fields on Protected Content tab identify a patient's sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). If any of these fields are identified as protected content, then a user must have the appropriate security permissions in System Administrator to view the field data. For example, a patient identifies their current gender as Male and their preferred pronoun as She or They. When you select the Preferred Pronoun field, only then users with the appropriate security permissions can view the data in the Preferred Pronoun field. To access this tab use one of the following paths: In NextGen® Enterprise PM, select Preferences > Enterprise Preferences > Protected Content. In File Maintenance, select Master Files > System > Enterprises. Select the applicable Enterprise and then Preferences > Protected Content. The Enterprise Preferences > Protected Content tab opens. Set Up Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Fields as Protected Content

The fields that identify a patient's sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) can be set as Protected. When this information is protected, a user must have the appropriate security permissions in System Administrator to view this field data. To open the Enterprise Preferences window, do one of the following: From NextGen® Enterprise PM, select Admin > > Preferences > Enterprise. From File Maintenance, select Master Files > System > Enterprises, and from the list, choose an enterprise and then select Preferences. From Preference List, select Protected Content. To identify a field as protected content, select the Protected column next to the field.A check mark marks the field as protected. Select OK. Note: Users with applicable security rights in System Administrator can view the protected content fields. Display Protected Content Operation

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) fields capture data for sexual orientation, gender identity, current gender, and preferred pronoun. You can choose to display or protect the content in these fields by using the security settings found under Rights > Operations > Display Protected Content. You can configure the user group rights so that: A user group can see all of the data in all of the fields. A user group can see data in only one or more of these fields. A user group cannot see any of the data in any of these fields. Review the following information to setup the data configuration for your practice.
