Viewing Encounter-Based Information
You can view the primary care, referring and rendering provider information on the Patient Information Card (PIC). Additionally, you can open specific templates to document encounter-specific details of the patient. You can configure the following default template links in File Maintenance. You can also configure other template links to be displayed or hidden in the PIC.
- The Referring Provider link opens the Patient Providers template, which includes details about primary care and encounter providers. You can enter additional referring provider details and select providers to be included on the Visit Note document. You can also copy other providers on the patient’s chart note.
- The HIPAA link opens the HIPAA Disclosure Information template, where you can document the authorization provided by the patient or legal guardian to disclose protected health information. Information for the HIPAA Information section is documented in NextGen® Enterprise PM when the patient arrives.
- The Advance Directives link opens the Advance Directives template, where the Directives on File section provides a quick reference to the patient’s advance directives. To review specific details, you can refer to the Advance Directive document on file.
- The Screening Summary link opens the Screening Summary template, where you can document patient screening details required by accrediting organizations. The clinical support staff uses the Counseling/Educational Factors link to record counseling information. The same link appears in the Finalize template and is often used by providers to document the counseling time spent on a patient.
- The OBGYN Details link opens the OBGYN Synopsis template, where you can document additional gynecological information. The OBGYN Details link appears for female patients who are eight years or older. If the patient is younger than eight years, the Birth History link appears. For more information on the OBGYN Synopsis template, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Obstetrics User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine.
A maximum of 12 template links can be configured at the practice level in File Maintenance. Practices can display template links to the Telephone Communication, Patient Demographics, Communication Summary, Patient Health Information (PHI) log, or Co-Managing Provider template.
For example, the Telephone Communication link opens the default phone template, where you can document a phone conversation or a patient encounter outside of a visit. Based on the practice preference, an alternate phone template may appear in place of the default template.
