Document Medications

You can document the medications to prescribe to a patient using the Medications module. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Intake template. In the Medications panel, select Add/Update. The Medications module opens. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search template opens. Search for and select a medicine from the list. Enter the Sig, Quantity, Refills, and Start date details. Select the Prescribed elsewhere check box, if applicable. Select Accept. Close the Medications module. Note: If applicable, you can select the Comment link to open the Medication Comment template. You must not use the Medication Comment template to list medications the patient is consuming. You can use the Medication Comment template as a temporary location to list all the unknown medications the patient is consuming along with the dosage and sig details. Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Patient Medication Trigger Overview

If you are using the Patient Medication trigger to prescribe a new medication to the selected patient, the trigger supports both the NDC ID and the Med ID. Contact your system administrator regarding the specific setup of your templates. The Patient Medication Renew trigger now displays a SIG dispensable message for a medication with weight-based dosing for a pediatric patient. The message requires you to confirm if you want to use the new dispensable SIG or the original SIG. To use the Patient Medication Education or External Reference trigger in NextGen® Enterprise EHR: You can enter the External Drug Reference Site URL under Medications preferences. Edit Medications

You can make changes to an active medication for a patient. After you make your updates, you can save your changes to the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medications module, and send the updates to a pharmacy. Note: You can edit a controlled substances medication only if you have set up the necessary ePCS permissions. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Patient Chart view. Select the Medications section.The list of patient medications appears. Select View/Edit for the medication that you want to edit. Note: The View/Edit option is not available for a provider without ePCS setup. The RxDetails view opens. RxDetails view Note: The View PDMP link appears for CS medications. You can select the link to view the report of the medications assigned to the patient. The link is not available if you do not have the required permissions. Modify the medication details as needed. Medication eRx Details

The Medication tab displays the details of the medication prescribed, including the Potency Code, DEA Schedule, and Dates. The tab displays relevant details in two sub tabs: Prescribed and Dispensed. The Potency Code field displays the drug potency unit code description based on the units description. The DEA Schedule field displays Schedule (I to V) for controlled substances based on the values in the NCPDP External Code List. Non-Scheduled or Not Specified displays when there is no schedule or if the medication is not a controlled substance. The Dates field displays the following dates: Written Last Filled Expiration Validated Delivered Period End Period End Period End New Rx Details Note: The New eRx Details window displays the Prescribed tab, Written and Last Filled date.
