View Prescription Pad

You can use the Prescription Pad pane to view pertinent medication information and to make appropriate changes to the medication's start date, SIG, and comments. You can also select whether a medication should be Dispensed as Written by automatically attaching your signature. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Medications module. Select a medication. Select Prescription Pad . The Prescription Pad pane appears on the left side of the window with the information for the medication you selected. Note: The Prescription Pad pane displays: As needed if you select the PRN check box. As needed along with the reason if you select the PRN check box and then select Reason. Only the reason if you select Reason without selecting the PRN check box. Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Document Medications

You can document the medications to prescribe to a patient using the Medications module. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Intake or SOAP template. In the Medications panel, select Add/Update.The Medications module opens. Select Prescribe New.The Medication Search template opens. Search for and select a medicine from the list. Enter the Sig, Quantity, Refills, and Start date details. Select the Prescribed elsewhere checkbox, if applicable. Select Accept. Close the Medications module. Note: If applicable, you can select the Comment link to open the Medication Comment template. You must not use the Medication Comment template to list medications the patient is consuming. You can use the Medication Comment template as a temporary location to list all the unknown medications the patient is consuming along with the dosage and sig details. Patient Medication Trigger Overview

If you are using the Patient Medication trigger to prescribe a new medication to the selected patient, the trigger supports both the NDC ID and the Med ID. Contact your system administrator regarding the specific setup of your templates. The Patient Medication Renew trigger now displays a SIG dispensable message for a medication with weight-based dosing for a pediatric patient. The message requires you to confirm if you want to use the new dispensable SIG or the original SIG. To use the Patient Medication Education or External Reference trigger in NextGen® Enterprise EHR: You can enter the External Drug Reference Site URL under Medications preferences. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Layout and Preferences Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
