Orders Module

You can use the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module to create and manage your lab and radiology orders (also known as diagnostic imaging orders). You can perform the following tasks from the Orders module: Place and send lab and radiology orders. Complete unfinished lab or radiology orders for a patient that originate from a bulk order generated through NextGen Care® Population Management Hub. Choosing advanced imaging tests by their appropriate use criteria (AUC) scores when you place a radiology order. Set up order filters for your practice or private use. Set up schedules for future and recurring orders. Add, view, and track order comments from different areas of the Orders module. Enter test results manually or view test results received from an interface. Send lab results to NextGen® PxP Portal. Setting Up and Maintaining Your Practice's Orders Workflow Foundation

To schedule, process, track, and complete your order more efficiently, you need to set up the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module to meet your specific practice needs. Once you set up your NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module, you can then update and maintain these settings as your business needs change and the Orders process evolves over time. Before performing Orders tasks, such as creating and sending Lab and Radiology orders, you need to set up the appropriate system rights, preferences, and tasks for the Orders module. The setup enables you to establish the workflow foundation for your practice or enterprise and enables providers and the clinical staff to access and use the appropriate functionality. The Orders module setup functions and options provide flexibility and enable you to establish a strong foundation for your Orders life cycle. Creating Orders

You can create lab and radiology orders from the Orders Summary tab in the Orders module. Lab and radiology orders can also be created in the following ways: If you are using the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, you can place orders from the applicable templates. You can access these orders from the templates or from the Orders module. An order for a patient can be created as part of a bulk order from the NextGen Care® Population Management Hub. You can view unfinished orders for a single patient from NextGen Care® Population Management Hub from the Orders Summary tab. You can view unfinished orders for all patients across the practice using the Unfinished filter in the Orders Management order control in a custom Practice template. Setting Up Required fields for Order Processing

For more efficient order processing and best clinical practices, your practice may need to set up certain fields as required. For example, your practice wants the Diagnosis field to be required when ordering a lab or radiology test. The NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module enables you to select fields as required in File Maintenance Practice Preferences. Required fields can be set up for all of the order types, that is, Lab, Radiology, and Immunizations. Once you set up these fields as required, they will display in Red on the appropriate Orders or Immunizations window, when you add or update an existing order. Before an order can be saved, users must ensure that these required fields have been entered or selected. Managing Unfinished Orders for All Patients across a Practice

You can select the pre-defined Unfinished filter to view unfinished lab and radiology orders for all patients in the practice, including unfinished orders from NextGen Care Population Management Hub. The filter displays the following columns in this default order: Image Type, Recurrence, Order#, Encounter Date, Patient, Description, Performing Entity, Provider Name, Test Location, Order Source, and Expected Result. The Order Source column identifies where the order was generated from, for example, Order Module, Template, or Bulk Order for orders created from the NextGen Care Population Management Hub. The following actions are available for this filter by default: Refresh, Update, Cancel, Delete, Goto Chart, and Tracking. The NextGen Status is New for unfinished orders. You can open one order at a time and enter the required information to complete the order. The NextGen Status of the order then changes to Ordered or Sent. Unfinished Orders from NextGen Care Population Management Hub

You can complete unfinished patient orders that are part of a bulk order created from NextGen Care Population Management Hub. A bulk order is used to simultaneously order the same lab and/or radiology (diagnostic imaging) tests with the same provider and location for multiple patients in a practice. The bulk order includes tests that are set up in in File Maintenance from the NextGen compendium. After the bulk order is placed, it is split into individual patient orders, which are separately managed. When the order is created, it is associated with a same-day, unlocked clinical encounter for a given patient, if available, or a new patient encounter is created. Unfinished patient orders originating from NextGen Care Population Management Hub need to have required fields or actions completed before they can be sent or printed. Unfinished orders may not have a diagnosis or a vendor or could not be sent to a vendor directly over the interface because they did not have all the necessary data
