Twinrix Immunization Administration Options

The Immunizations module includes the Twinrix vaccine for selection and administration. Twinrix is a combination vaccine, which includes Hep A and Hep B, and is administered to a patient in one injection. Twinrix is recommended for adult patients only (that is, 18 years of age and older) in the U.S. Twinrix immunizations can be administered in three doses, four doses (accelerated), and mixed dosing (that is, Monovalent and combination Hep A and Hep B vaccines). To help you make more appropriate Twinrix immunization order decisions, the system displays vaccine dosage selection warnings and recommendations. Viewing the Td and Tdap Vaccine Information

The Recommendation and Chart view enables you to view Td and Tdap information as follows: Tdap and the Td vaccine status and schedule information displays on separate rows. Note: However, Tdap is still included in the Td calculation. If a patient received the Td or Tdap immunization less than 10 years ago, the Status column displays Current. If a patient has not received the Td or Tdap immunization for more than 10 years, the Status column displays Past Due. The Tdap immunizations is updated according to the CDC recommendations and the Age range and Gender you select in File Maintenance > Master Files > EHR > Practices > Preferences > Orders > Imm. For the Tdap vaccine only, the system does not consider the “Ignore Pediatric Recommendation for Adults” practice preference when calculating the Tdap Immunization status for adults or patients 11 years of age and older. Ensuring More Accurate Immunizations Schedules

The Immunizations module includes rules and conditions to guide the system in displaying the proper vaccines to be administered to a patient. These conditions and rules are based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) immunizations scheduling recommendations and other governmental guidelines. As new regulations and patient safety considerations occur in various iterations, the schedules and different vaccine dosage rules that the Immunizations module uses are updated. The system also evaluates the components of a patient’s chart to determine if additional doses of a vaccine are needed, such as the patient age, dates of previous doses administered, and number of doses already completed. Immunization rules and vaccine information displayed enables you to do the following: Determine when a patient should receive an immunization. Viewing the Individual Vaccine Statuses on the Orders Summary tab

In addition to viewing the NextGen Status on the Orders Summary tab, you can view the vaccine status for each Immunization Order in the Description column. For example, a provider orders one Immunization order with four vaccines for a patient in the same visit. However, only one of these vaccines was fully administered. In the Description column, the system displays different vaccine statuses (in parenthesis) for the Immunization order, as follows: Hep B (ped/adol, 2 dose): (Refused) TDaP: (Refused) Td (7 yrs or older): (Fully Administered) Hep A (ped/adol, 2 dose): (Partially Administered) On the Orders Summary tab, when the Immunizations Order life cycle is complete for each order, the system displays Complete in the NextGen Status column. Viewing Pediatric and Adult Immunizations Display Options

You can display or hide pediatric vaccine recommendations for adult patients. The default is to ignore pediatric vaccines for adult patients. To change this setting, open Practice Preferences > Orders Module > Imm tab in File Maintenance. However, if you administer an immunization to an adult, which is recommended for pediatric patients, the Immunization date displays in the Chart View but not the Status. For example, the date that a Pediatric vaccine (Hep B) was administered to an adult displays in the Dose column but no status is displayed. Create a Vaccine Custom Name for an Adult Vaccine Example

Scenario: Your practice wants to set up a vaccine custom name for the adult combination vaccine Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B using the trade name Twinrix. In File Maintenance, select System > EHR > Vaccine Custom Name. The Vaccine Custom Name List window opens. To add the Twinrix Vaccine Custom Name, select the Open Menu button, and then select New. The Add Vaccine Custom Name window opens. Select the vaccine from the CPT Description list. For example, the 90636 CPT description is Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B. In the Vaccine Custom Name field, enter Twinrix. Note: The system applies the Vaccine Custom Name to all practices in the enterprise, not just the current practice you are logged on. To update the Vaccine Custom Name as a favorite, select the Update Vaccine Favorites check box. To save the Vaccine Custom Name, select OK. When the user creates or updates an Immunization order, on the Select Vaccines tab, the system displays the custom name Twinrix in the Select Vaccine favorites list. Y
