Create an Appointment

NextGen recommends to create and manage appointments in NextGen® Enterprise PM, not in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, if you use NextGen® Enterprise PM as your scheduling source. Appointments created in NextGen® Enterprise EHR are not communicated to NextGen® Enterprise PM. You can create an appointment in NextGen® Enterprise EHR only if you have the View by Provider display setting enabled. If you select View by Resource, you cannot create an appointment in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You may also create an appointment in NextGen® Enterprise EHR if you use a third-party scheduling application instead of NextGen® Enterprise PM. You can create an appointment in the Appointments tab of the Workflow module. You can create a custom status for the appointment. Select a patient. Appointments

The Appointments tab of the Workflow module provides access to the daily appointments of the patients for multiple providers in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Appointments show for the selected date on the calendar. The calendar defaults to the current date. Hovering your mouse over a date on the calendar displays information about appointments scheduled for that day. Hovering your mouse over the Appointments button in the Demographics section enables you to view the list of the appointments for the selected patient or task. Appointment information includes the appointment time, room, patient name, subject, reason, status, provider or resource name, and wait time. You may select a specific view to view patient appointments by: Daily Multi-View Timeline Right-clicking an appointment provides the same options as the buttons displayed on the toolbar. NextGen® Enterprise EHR Practice Preferences Options

The EHR tab in Practice Preferences window enables you to select the items that appear in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. The following table describes the options for NextGen® Enterprise EHR Practices Preferences. Options Description Use PM as EHR's scheduling source If you have a license for NextGen® Enterprise PM, then the Workflow module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR uses NextGen® Enterprise PM as the default scheduling source and you cannot create appointments or modify appointment information (except room and status) in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. In the Appointments section of the Workflow module, all NextGen® Enterprise PM resources are available, and you can view all the NextGen® Enterprise PM appointments. If the check box is not selected, only providers are available in the Appointments section. Appointment Scheduling Preferences

Appointment Scheduling Preferences control how specific functions and tasks work in the Appointment Book in NextGen® Enterprise PM. While some settings are strictly for customizing the display, others affect the application behavior. You must complete these settings before opening the Appointment Book for the first time. In File Maintenance, scheduling preferences can be defined in the Default User Prefs - Scheduling master file, and then assigned to groups of users or individual users in System Administrator. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, you can modify your own scheduling preferences in Admin > Preferences > User > Scheduling. Your settings override any default settings that were assigned to you in System Administrator. Subgroup Used in Description Appointment Book NextGen® Enterprise PM Enables users to access the Appointment Book, but not to schedule appointments. Appointment Book Multi-view NextGen® Enterprise PM Enables users to access the Multi-view tab within the Appointment Book. To access the Appointment Book, users must have access to this also. Scheduling Administration

Scheduling Administration is an important function in NextGen® Enterprise PM. The Scheduling Administration creates the Appointment Book window and helps you schedule appointments for patients in a practice.
