Create an Appointment

NextGen recommends to create and manage appointments in NextGen® Enterprise PM, not in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, if you use NextGen® Enterprise PM as your scheduling source. Appointments created in NextGen® Enterprise EHR are not communicated to NextGen® Enterprise PM.

You can create an appointment in NextGen® Enterprise EHR only if you have the View by Provider display setting enabled. If you select View by Resource, you cannot create an appointment in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

You may also create an appointment in NextGen® Enterprise EHR if you use a third-party scheduling application instead of NextGen® Enterprise PM.

You can create an appointment in the Appointments tab of the Workflow module. You can create a custom status for the appointment.

  1. Select a patient.
  2. Access the Appointments tab.
  3. Select New in the toolbar.
    The details pane opens with blank fields to create a new appointment for the selected patient.

    Default settings for the current date, time, provider, and location appear.

  4. Enter a Reason for the appointment in the top field.
  5. Choose a date and time for the appointment.
  6. To return to the current time, select icon.
  7. Select a Provider for the appointment.

  8. Select a Location for the appointment.

    • To choose the current location, select .
  9. Enter a Room number.
  10. Enter the Status of the patient.
  11. To clear the appointment, select Undo.
  12. To save the appointment, select Schedule Appointment.
    The display count of the Appointments button increases by one. The appointment is listed in the appointments list for the selected day. If the appointment is for the current date, the appointment displays in the Daily Appointments section.
