Set up Printing and Faxing Preferences

Select the default printer or printing option to use from the list at the top. If a default printer is already set, the name appears. From the Source list, select the paper source to use for the selected printer. The source may be a tray, bin, feed type, or automatic selection. To prompt for the user name and password before the prescription for the selected medication is either faxed to a pharmacy or printed out for a patient, select the Use Medication Verification check box. Check your practice policy to determine if this security feature is required. CAUTION: If the Use Medication Verification user preference is turned on, the logon information used to fax or print medications must match the logon information that was used to access the system. If the selected medication has been prescribed to the patient by another practice or provider, select the Prescribed Elsewhere check box. Parent topic: Medications Preferences

Tall Man Medications

Tall Man casing for medications enables you to visually distinguish between medications that have similar names. When there are similar medication names, they will display with some of the letters capitalized. For example, acetazolamide and acetohexamide have similar names. In the First Data Base listing, the display names are acetaZOLAMIDE and acetoHEXAMIDE and display as such in the Medications module and medication search windows. You can enable and disable Tall Man Medications at the practice level in File Maintenance. Note: Users can override the setting in the NextGen® Enterprise user preferences. Enable Tall Man Medications

In File Maintenance, select Master Files > EHR > Practices. The Practices List window opens. Double-click a practice.The Modify Practice Information window opens. Modify Practice Information Select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. Medication option is selected from the Preference List From Preferences List, select Medication. Medication Practice Preferences Descriptions

The following table provides description for the fields on the Medication Practice Preferences. Use this table to configure the practice-level settings for the Medications module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Field Description eRx: always send generic name if not DAW Select this check box to have all medications sent via eRx using the generic name unless the provider selected the Dispense as Written check box. Enable Standard Sigs This field is not currently used. Enable Sig Override This field is not currently used. Allow Prescribing Delegates Select to enable each provider with a "self" relationship to delegate which users with the appropriate rights for print, fax, or ePrescribing can send medications on his or her behalf. When prescribing delegates is allowed, a user preference becomes enabled in NextGen® Enterprise EHR that providers can use to limit and manage the delegates. This check box is selected by default. Available Medication Search Display Options

The display options in the following table are available for medication search: Display Option Description Display Generic Name Opens the generic name for each listed medication. Display Strengths Opens the strength of each listed medication. Display Brand for Generic Medications Opens the brand name during generic name search. Display Generic for Brand Medications Opens the generic name during brand name search. Medication Name Bold Opens all medication names in bold. Font Size Opens small, medium, or large font size for each listed medication. Highlight Controlled Substances Opens all DEA controlled substances in red color. Display of Drug Name at Child Node Opens the medication name for each listed medication. Auto Search Enables the application to perform the search as you type. The application is set up to give you 800 milliseconds to enter the medication name before the application starts the automatic search. One second is 1000 milliseconds.
