Set Up a Schedule for a Future Order

When you create a new lab or radiology order, you can set up future order schedules on the Set Schedule window. You can set up one schedule or multiple schedules for the tests you select. Create a new lab or radiology order. Select order criteria (that is, diagnosis, favorites, if appropriate). To schedule a future order, select Set Schedule in the Assign Diagnosis to Selected Tests panel. The Set Order Schedule window opens. Select the Future Order option. Check the order to schedule. Select the future date when the order should be processed. To update the expiration date, select whether the order should expire in Days, Weeks, or Years; or select a date from the calendar. Note: You can update the expiration date timeframe. However, you cannot exceed the number of months your practice has set up in File Maintenance > EHR > Practices > Practice Preferences > Orders Module > FutureRecurring Orders Expires After field. View Future and Recurring Order Schedules

After setting the schedule for future or recurring orders, you can view the schedule from the Orders Summary tab. Note: The Start Date indicates when the schedule becomes active. To view the schedule for a future order, select the order in the Orders Summary grid, and select the Future Order icon. The View Order Schedule window opens. Select OK. To view the schedule for a recurring order, select the order in the Orders Summary grid, and select the Recurring Order icon. The View Order Schedule window opens. Select Close. Note: You can also view the future or recurring schedule by double-clicking an order in the Orders Summary grid, and selecting the View Schedule button on the Update Lab/Radiology Order window. For Lab and Radiology order types, you can set up schedules for future and recurring orders, as follows: Set schedules for recurring and future orders when creating a new lab or radiology order. Quickly display the recurring and future orders schedule from the Orders Summary tab for review. Reschedule recurring and future order from the Orders Summary tab. Note: You can also reschedule recurring and future orders from the Orders Management order control on a custom practice template for multiple patients in a practice. Update the due date for test results. Note: You can track and update the Expect Results date for future and recurring orders. If your practice has set up the Auto Release function in File Maintenance, you can use this function to "mark" future and recurring orders for automatic release. Add Comments and Schedules for Laboratory and Diagnostic Order Items

For laboratory and diagnostic orders items, you can document the reason for ordering a test and create schedules for future and recurring orders. Note: For more information on how to document comments for immunization order items, see Manage Immunization Order Details. Open CPOE. Select an order item. Assign diagnoses to the selected order item. Select the Laboratory or Diagnostic tab. To document comments for an order item, under Comments and Schedule, enter your comments in the corresponding Ordering Reason box. To create a schedule for a future or recurring order, select Set Schedule. The Set Order Schedule window opens. From the Items Available for Schedule list, select the order item. For a future order, do the following: Select Future order (one-time only). To select the future processing date for the order, either select the number of days, weeks, months, or years in Schedule in, or select a specific date from the calendar. If your practice has certain tests that require more than a one day turnaround, set the number of days for these tests in File Maintenance. For regular lab and radiology orders, create an order for an individual patient following the standard order placement process. If necessary, you can reschedule the Expected Due Date on the Test Details tab. If you have saved the order, select the existing order from the Orders Summary tab and reschedule the Expected Test Results Due Date. For future orders, place an order for an individual patient following the future order process. If you are placing the order, you can reschedule the Expected Due Date on the Test Details tab. If you have saved the order, select the existing order from the Orders Summary tab and reschedule the Expected Test Results Due Date in the Reschedule Order window. For recurring orders, place an order for an individual patient following the set up recurring order process. Note: For recurring orders, the Expected test result

Rescheduling the Expected Test Result Due Date for a Recurring Order

After a recurring order is released, the system calculates the expected result date according to the setup in the File Maintenance > Order Tests > Modify Orders > Expected test results field. You can open the released recurring order and reschedule the test results due date in the Reschedule Order window, if necessary. On the Reschedule Order window or on the Update Lab/Radiology Order window, on the Test Details tab, the Expected Result shows (Recurring). The NextGen Status displays Released on the Orders Summary tab or on the Orders Management order control on your custom practice template. Note: For the appropriate order, the NextGen status displays Released on the Orders Summary tab or Orders Management Control practice template.
