You can either enter or search and select a diagnosis for a patient's procedure. You must select at least one diagnosis for the patient. To enter up to 12 diagnoses for a procedure, you must select Allow twelve diagnoses under the EHR tab in thePractice Preferences window in File Maintenance.
 
 
  - Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
 
  - Open Procedures window in Procedures modules.
 
  - In Diagnosis field, enter a diagnosis.
   
    If a diagnosis code does not exist in the patient's chart, a message appears confirming that add the diagnosis to the patient's chart.
   
   
    - To add the diagnosis, select Yes.
 
    - To continue adding the procedure without adding the diagnosis to the patient's chart, select No.
 
   
 
  - To select a Diagnosis, select the ellipsis button.
   
 
  - Select the preference icon 
 and select the columns to display.
   
   
    The selected columns appear in the search window.
   
 
  - In the search window, enter one of the following: Diagnosis Key, ICD Code, or description.
 
  - Select Search.
   
    Note: By default, the search window displays the patient's established diagnosis for selection. You can perform a search only if there is a pending diagnosis.
    
 
    
   
    The search results appear.
   
 
  - Select a diagnosis from the search results, and do one of the following:
   
    - To exit the search window with the selected diagnosis code, select Select.
 
    - To exit without saving your search results, select Cancel.
 
   
 
  - Select the ellipse button corresponding to Admitting Diagnosis.
   
    The 
Admitting Diagnosis Selection window opens. 
    
    
  - Select the admitting diagnosis from the list and select OK.
   
    The selected item gets added to Admitting Diagnosis.
