Supervising Physician

A provider enrolled with Surescripts and eligible to ePrescribe patient medications may need a supervising physician. The Additional Prescription Detail tab of the Medications module provides a list of supervising physicians. To enable the Supervising Physician list, you must select the Supervising Physician Required check box on the ePrescribing tab of the Providers master file in File Maintenance. The Supervising Physician list enables you to select the default supervising physician, rendering provider, or any other provider who does not require a supervisor. The following conditions apply when selecting a supervising physician. Condition Selection Prescribing physician of the active medication does not require supervision. Electronic Prescriptions

You can electronically submit a prescription directly to a selected pharmacy. The ePrescribing feature uses the Surescripts retail and mail-order networks of pharmacies and must be set up through File Maintenance and System Administrator. You should remember the following points before submitting prescriptions electronically: Any medication you submit electronically must have a valid patient's Rx eligibility request, a valid SIG, a numeric quantity value, and a unit type. When resubmitting (including responding to refill requests) a medication previously prescribed without a valid unit type, you must update the unit type to a valid value. You can submit controlled substances electronically only if ePCS is set up. User-defined medications are not supported with Surescripts. You cannot send a medication that is not DEA Schedule 0 without the required setup. If you need supervision, you cannot send a prescription without selecting the appropriate supervising physician. Configure an eRx Supervising Physician

In File Maintenance, from Master Files > System, select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click a provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. Select the ePrescribing tab. Select Supervising Physician Required. Modify Provider Information Do one of the following: Select a provider from the Supervising Physician list. Manage Patient Pharmacies

Use the Manage Patient Pharmacies link on the Send Prescription window to add the following default pharmacies: Primary pharmacy Secondary pharmacy Mail-order pharmacy In the Send Prescription window, select Manage Patient Pharmacies. Note: You must have the right to add prescriptions, and ePrescribe must be enabled for the Manage Patient Pharmacies link to appear. The Manage Patient Pharmacies window opens. Manage Patient Pharmacies window Select the ellipsis button next to the enter of pharmacy you want to search for. The Pharmacy Search window opens. Search and select a pharmacy. For the primary and secondary pharmacies, you can search and select either a retail or mail-order pharmacy. For mail-order pharmacies, a mail-order pharmacy must be selected. Electronically Submit a Prescription

In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the Medications module. Select a medication. On the medication details toolbar, select Send. Note: If the pharmacy associated with the medication is hidden, a message appears with an option to select another pharmacy. The Send Prescription window opens. For multiple medications, all associated pharmacies must be active before you can send the medications. Only providers who are enrolled in ePrescribing and assigned a Surescripts Provider Identifier (SPI) can submit prescriptions electronically. If you are not enrolled, a message appears indicating that no SPI is allocated. You can contact your system administrator to check your enrollment details and see the Select a Supervising Physician section in File Maintenance. Optional: To remove a hidden pharmacy message from the Alerts section, select a destination pharmacy that is not hidden in the Destination field or through the Manage Patient Pharmacies link. Fax Patient Documents

Before you begin To be able to fax patient documents, the access rights for Operations > Faxing > Documents must be enabled in the System Administrator application. You can fax one or more patient documents directly to a selected destination. Generate a new patient document, or open an existing patient document. From the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Menu bar, select File and select Fax. Note: This option appears on the File menu only when you have a patient document in view. If you have not previously saved your document, the Save Document window opens. Select OK. The Send Fax window opens. Select Destination criteria. The Send Fax window defaults the Destination criteria based on the last selection made for the type of the item being faxed. For example, if you last faxed a medication to a specific pharmacy, the next time you try to fax a medication, the Destination is automatically set to Pharmacy.
